Just to clarify, I think Chinos is great most of the time, and I don't think anyone here was assaulting his character as a person when he's not "performing", though I do appreciate those of you who have talked with him more extensively and have let us know about his off-stage personality. I've heard before that he's a very nice guy and I'm sure it's true.

And even "on-stage" I think he's hilarious most of the time. On his day off while we were there the replacement staff guy was not nearly as funny. And I'm definitely not complaining about him teasing people and all that - that's part of the fun. I guess it's just a critique about how he teases. I think some kinds of jokes might be more conducive than others to creating the kind of atmosphere Chinos and all of us Desire to see at the resort.

Not to get too intellectual here (though I am a grad student after all :) ), but I think the line has to do with the definition of "satire." What Chinos does best is satire - i.e. he lampoons people and makes fun of things that are worth making a little bit of fun of. But the thing is, satire usually works best when the person being satirized actually needs to be taken down a notch - i.e. the groups or individuals in power. Satire doesn't work as well (in fact it's not even really satire), when the ones being satirized are already the weak and the marginalized. In other words, satire should target the bullies, not the victims.

So if Chinos makes fun of the young drunk guys who are making asses of themselves with the ladies, that's fine. Their behavior deserves to be lampooned. But if he makes fun of the overweight chick who has already spent her whole life being teased and laughed at, that's not so funny IMHO. At least, that's how I would draw the line.

I guess what I'm saying is that Chinos doesn't need to change his act, just refine it a little bit. :)

Here is my pov if I may, based on a "working" relationship. My boss and I call Chinos a princess. He is the face of TTR Cancun, and all the other animacion staff follow in his shadow. I basically have to kiss his ass when I am there, and that is a VERY intimidating task. BUT, if not, I lose my time at Temp, and I have really grown to love it. Just last week, after giving my speech on the mic, and also after suffering a major allergy attack on the way there, Chinos gave me some great pointers about pitch and dealing with the mic in that situation. I was shocked as was my boss. But it does show his caring side that we thoght was non existant.

    That is my two cents.

I have no problem believing that. I have had the opportunity to have lunch with him a couple of times on past trips ad it's easy to tell that he's smarter than the court jester he displays himself as. besides you can't do a job like that every day and stay enthusiastic if you aren't into it.

Wait until you get there and meet him in person, then you can form your own opinions. Personally after 11 trips I still love Chinos. Let us know how you liked the resort when you get back. Enjoy.

We are all prepared to go with an open mind and I expect that Nancy may be a target for Chinos jibes. He will get it back as much as he puts it out but if he ends up on the bottom of the pool with a large lady sitting on him, I hope he takes it in a spirit of fun ;)

Dan, totally agree..he made a sexual remark about my wife when she bent over one time. She is truly a beautiful woman. We don't look at it as a threat. It is the ultimate form of flattery. I am a little thicker and he mentioned how I got a woman like her....I made a smart, fun remark back to him and we had a great laugh about it. It's not what he says. It's how he says it. I am a public speaker and if the crowd isn't responding as good as they should, people will do whatever it takes to get attention. Look at little kids doing something different or bad....that's when the parents start to pay attention

You know we were there one time, and on our last day we decided to take part in the perfect couple game. They had the girls go get a drink and they asked the husbands questions. The wives were suppose to guess the answer of what their husbands would say. Well Chino changed the responses. I'm sure everyone around the pool was very entertained. It was all in good fun! Ran into Chino at breakfast, he hugged us and said you guys were good sports said he'd see us next time. We've been back many times and Chino always gives a good show. I agree with some of the others, he's a entertainer and wants to make sure your having a good time. You always have other space to go if it gets to much.

There would be no comedians or entertainers if they all had to be politically correct. One of the most successful shows was also one of the most racist, All In The Family. Times change and our tolerances change , but we still need to laugh at the end of the day. You got to take the good with the bad,
I think Chino is not perfect but has enuf good to forgive the bad.
See you soon Chino, please don't spank me with your paddle
