Do you know what it costs for a 200 carton (10 pack) of cigs in supermarkets in Mexico? USA brands? This is to take back to the uk? We pay $10USA for a pack of 20 at home!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
We paid $29usd for a carton of Marlboro at the duty free when we landed. This was last September. On the way back to the States it was $96usd for 3 cartons. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
Thanks for posting this. I wanted to bring a few bottles of Don Q with me so I have liquor in my room since they most likely don't sell it in Mexico. I had no idea the fines were this ridiculous.
Yeah they are crazy. But you can still pack 3L in your bag per person. Done it many times, just don't go over.
I might just suck it up and drink whatever rum they have at the duty free shop. They'll probably only have Bacardi which I don't like very much, but it doesn't matter. I'll have fun regardless of what I drink.
The duty free store is pretty small in the arriving terminal, so the selection will be limited (I know there there is no jager, no JD fire, and no fireball). If your departing airport has a duty free, you might be able to buy it there, and then just carry it with you.
We should start a thread with dates that people are arriving. I would gladly bring a carton of cigs (don't smoke) or loose packs of different brands or extra booze (my 1 very large bottle is good for me) in my checked bag if people needed extra. Just a thought.
On page one of the July roll call thread there is list of people arriving in July (looks like it was last updated 3/31). As it gets close I am sure you will see another update by Jannet. If you have posted on the thread with your dates, you will be added to the roll call.
Not sure what this means (document we signed when we paid was in Spanish) but this is the rule Mexican Customs used to base how much duty they charged us for one carton of cigarettes: "Hasta 40 cajetillas de cigarros, en cuyo caso se paga una tasa global de 573.48%" This was last month. When you pass thru customs they ask you if you are bringing in any tobacco or liquor. It's up to you as to how you answer that question. They also would only accept a credit card. IMPORTANT: If you are over limit, be aware they base their duty on how much you tell them you paid for the item, be it booze or cigarettes.
