During our Honeymoon trip in June 2013, us and alot of other guests got sick, with the same thing you are complaining of, we wondered what it was, and there was alot of speculation around the resort but we later found out that it was something to do with the flood they had had 2 days before we got there as not only did TTR guests have it, so did other guests from other hotels. I agree with Edward-Ali too though, on vacation we all often over-indugle in food and alcohol and not enough water, hence the body reacts in this way!

Cipro is awesome you will literally feel better within hours and usually don't need to take it for more than a couple of days .

We always come back from Mexico feeling a little off. Sometimes its worse than others. Different food safety standards etc is what i feel like does it. Sometimes it will last a few weeks.

Take ONE 500mg tablet, and that should be it. If you don't start feeling better within 1-2 hours, then it's not likely something that Cipro alone will take care of.

Cipro causes sun sensitivity, so it's not something you want to be taking every day.

If you're going to take Cipro (or any antibiotic) you should take the complete course as prescribed. Sorry, it's the nurse in me, but antibiotics should only be taken when you have a bacterial infection. Taking antibiotics unnecessarily can lead to antibiotic resistant bugs. Most of the time GI issues are viral, and Cipro won't help with a virus.

    Ok off my soapbox :)

    Where's the tequila?!?

DO NOT SELF MEDICATE WITH CIPRO! If you have other real health issues where Cipro is prescribed it will not kill those bugs. Ask your MD first and nobody here should give medical advice even if they are qualified to do so since you are not the medical practitioner of the person you are advising. In the meantime drink lots of water to help with the dehydration.

Do not self medicate with Cipro.

If one dose cured you ,, you did not need it.

its hard to say if the actual #,s are up, because with social media , we just find out about more cases, we wouldn't of in the past.

Sigh... Cipro is a well-established treatment for "traveler's diarrhea". While many protocols now call for 2 doses or more, my own doctor has recommended a single dose of 500mg.

Of course, this is not medical advice, and I am not a doctor. But I have traveled to (and lived in) many 3rd world countries, and this treatment has been a vacation-saver for me and my friends many times.

    Ymmv.
