It's very unfortunate that our schools don't teach geography anymore. Many children AND ADULTS have no clue where other countries are located.
National Geographic did a study last year on the geographic literacy of young(18-24) Americans. They found that... - Fewer than 3 in 10 think it important to know the locations of countries in the news and just 14 percent believe speaking another language is a necessary skill. - Only 37% of young Americans can find Iraq on a map—though U.S. troops have been there since 2003. - 57% could not find the Indian subcontinent on a map of Asia. - 75% were unable to locate Israel on a map of the Middle East. - Nearly 75% incorrectly named English as the most widely spoken native language. - 48% of young Americans believe the majority population in India is Muslim. - Half of young Americans can't find New York on a map. The complete report can be found at http://www.nationalgeographic.com/roper2006/pdf/FINALReport2006GeogLitsurvey.pdf
Define 'Young American' sir and as smart as I may think I am, I still don't care about most things on that list.
If you read carefully, the study was conducted with subjects between the age of 18-24. The list is just a snapshot. There are a lot more shocking stats in the full report.
