We have done a day trip to the island on a few trips. We wake up early, take the ferry, grab a case of beer, and rip around on golf carts and explore for a few hours, then head back in time for late afternoon at the sexy pool. Always a trip highlight. We did Xcaret with our kids on a previous trip, and thought it was extremely well done - cenotes to swim in, lots of cultural activities, etc. The night show is also really incredible.
