I'm still confounded that people are reporting cases of swine flu in ppl who've been to Cancun but we can't manage to diagnose a case of it here? That makes no sense to me. Either all cases here are so mild as to be under the radar, or docs here are morons, or what? And people don't pick something up on the plane home and become symptomatic during the same plane ride, that makes no sense.
Just to show how crazy some of these stats are and how the media loves to embelish things here's the latest from Australia 91 people suspected of having swine flu Considering Aussie tourism to Mexico must be <1% of all tourists that cant be right. Looks like they are counting a whole plane load regardless of whether the tourists concerned have reported any sickness or not.... kind of like Mexico counting the entire 110 million population as suspect.
I'm going. We have a better chance of getting West Nile on our back deck from mosquitoes than we have of getting the pig flu. They have more cases of it in Texas where I'm going next week than in Cancun. So I'm going. I'll drink a lot to sanitize anything that invades my body. Jamie
There are 54 cases within 50 States of America. WOW, Indiana has the first case and he is "doing well". He has never been to Mexico. Why didn't they report my flu I had 4 mos ago. What am I chopped liver ? Oh my I live 2 hours away from Norte Dame ( Indiana's 1st case). Have to run and build my quarrantine shelter...oh my, oh my, I am going to die!!! Cancunwhoopie
I'm sure you will help us sanitize our bodys with drinks as well. You know someone has to watch over us. Don
This is overblown media crap. Thus far, this flu is far from "impressive." Unfortunately, with the media blowing it out of proportion as much as it has, its inevitable to affect Cancun tourism.... Very Unfortunate.
Yes but those who die from the "regular flu" tend to be the elderly and infants who are too weak to combat it naturally. Young healthy people are dying from Swine. If this gets out of control - and I don't believe it will - they say as many as 2 million Americans could die. Taken from a recent AP article: "A full-scale pandemic — like the 1918 Spanish flu — would sicken 90 million Americans, or about 30 percent of the population. It could claim the lives of about 2 percent of those infected, about 2 million people, according to government experts." To read the full article go to: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090428..._worst_case;_ylt=AgPWQHdA5MpTZ3uhN8HljtAazJV4 Look at it this way. 24 hours ago there were only a handfull of cases in the US and they were all considered mild. Now there are over 65 confirmed cases (with over 200 possible in NYC) and 5 are in the hospital with serious conditions. Don't take this for granted. Chances are it will be under control soon enough. That doesn't mean we should be careless and ignore the issue. The media is over-hyping it like they do with everything but this flu has the potential to become very dangerous. It seems to spread very quickly and that is what is scary.
