Why not provide personal comments, instead of trying to sensationalize the issue? Those kids had a layover in Mexico City, where the swine flu outbreaks are most prevalent.
I have been back home from Cancun since Friday night and I feel perfectly fine. If I could go back again tomorrow I would! http://www.flickr.com/photos/31653246@N07/sets/72157617277001009/
I don't have any data to support this, but I would bet that everyone who "got sick" while visiting Cancun, probably went thru Mexico city, and/or boarded a plane that had just come from there... otherwise I cant see how they could have contracted this flu, as there are certainly not people running around the hotel zone coughing wildly, enough to infect tourists... the only confined spaces most tourists have in common is the airplane.....
My thoughts mirror this with most cases im reading about . Although coming from the Uk myself i cant see the couple from Scotland having done this as we usually fly direct and going further west to fly back to Scotland would make no sense.
i came home from mexico sick at the end of march my dr gave me meds and within a week i was fine. today my doctor called and told me it might of be swine flu and to have me come back for a check up. its just like any flu you can die from the common flu its all about your immunity system people need to understand that if your immunity systems sucks you can die from a common cold.
I took my 84 year old mother in law to the Home Depot today and we both kind of gave that "Whats up?" look to each other when EVERY employee was wearing a mask. My Spanish is bad enough but when I can't see your mouth moving it certaintly doesn't make it easier. IMMS and ISSTE still report no cases,
Ahh the very same highly respected newspaper that predicted 50,000 UK deaths from Bird flu in 2005 (thanks Trigger) http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1500747/Donaldson-warns-Bird-flu-could-kill-50000-in-UK.html
we came home from Cancun in early march and 2 days later the wife was sick. Lasted 3 weeks before i convinced her to see a doctor who gave her an antibiotic and sent her home. A few days later she was fine. Who knows!
Unfortunately we have several cases here in the New England area now and none of them connected through Mexico City. The general consensus so far has been Miami and Philly. The two young boys from Lowell, MA were confirmed this morning. The good news is they are going to recover. We also have 3 confirmed cases in Maine. Massachusetts now has more than 40 cases awaiting confirmation. I would expect that the numbers are going to expand exponentially as our area just finished spring break for both college students (March/April) and K-12 (Last week & this week). Cancun is a large destination for the Boston area. We have charter tour companies who offer nonstop flights to Cancun with their travel packages. I looked at flights from Boston to Cancun and the only airline that connects through Mexico City is Mexicana Airlines and they just began connecting through Mexico City this month. Before that they were connecting through Chicago. All the other airlines are connecting through NYC, Philly, Newark, Myrtle Beach, Miami, Atlanta, Dallas & Memphis. Dallas would make the most sense for people here in the northeast to cross paths with infected people traveling from/through Mexico City. If any of the travelers who return from Cancun on nonstop flights contract Swine Flu then we have to assume it is somewhere in the area. Fingers crossed Cancun stays clean and this blows over. We seem to have a good number of contacts in Cancun but what about other areas in Mexico? Are you guys hearing anything from the other areas?
