Yes it is the same flight. Some more good news for those of you leaving for vacation! The CDC and WHO have both stated that closing the borders and prohibiting travel to Mexico would not be effective since the flu has already been spread outside the border. It seems they never really felt this action to be very effective even if the flu was still contained in Mexico. Unfortunately that won't do anything for the empty planes. Apparently the US government expects to have a vaccine available for production sometime in the second week of May. Timeline for availablility hasn't been given but you would hope the manufacturers could have something on the street by the end of May. Does anyone in the medical field have a better handle on the typical production timeframe? From what I read they don't want the manufacturers to slow down the production of the regular flu vaccine for this fall.
Dear Steve, the site owner, A couple of posters here are now personally attacking me. I believe all I have done in the past few days is to post reliable articles, and provide my analysis. In response I am getting personal attacks. The attackers never post any articles and quote them, just attack the messenger not the message. So I leave you with two choices, and I ask you to TAKE A STAND NOW: a) rebuke the posters who are attacking me (you can see them above this post). or b) ask me to leave and never post here again The choice is yours. But I am asking you to take a stand now. After all, you are the admin of this board. Thanks stevesteve
Authorities in Playa del Carmen have ordered large nightclubs to close, including El Reven, Coco Bongo, Dubai, Cielito Lindo and more, any place that has capacity of more than 80 people. (source Noticaribe). http://www.noticaribe.com.mx/rivieramaya/2009/04/ordenan_cierre_de_antros.html No news of closings in Cancun yet.
??? The Canadian Media??? Although we have been guilty as implicated, by no means are we alone. Factually and actually, the American media is a much bigger conglomerate than most media outlets worldwide combined. How can a country 1/10th the size of the US with a media even smaller than that have that type of effect. Propogating the myth that the Canadian media is responsible for being irresponsible is quite irresponsible. Truth be told, CNN, MSNBC, Headline News, etc., are spreading many more falsehoods with regards to this travesty. I am afraid I must be misunderstanding your post Dennis, usully you are a source of fresh air and not of propogation, have I missed something?
I don't really understand this "negative press" business. The flu cases are sent to CDC and other authority labs, and if they come back as positive (most do), they are reported as such. Before that, they are reported as suspect. Please folks let not say this and that is "hype" unless you are questioning CDC and Canadian certified labs. Hype is opinion, CDC and Canadian labs, I believe in.
I dont believe anyone is attacking you, just taking issue with and providing balance to your rather one sided negative view of the situation. I did remove the whois information and the google search on your telephone number, although both those pieces of information are publically available I dont think they should be posted here. Unless things go truly overboard, which I dont believe they have in this case, I have never asked or forced anyone to leave the forum for sharing their opinion. My advice would be that if you're not comfortable taking a bit of flak for posting views which appear to many to be panic mongering, then dont post them in the first place. It's kind of like cheering for the other team in their stadium - you cant provoke people and expect them to say nothing back.
I will admit to being somewhat flippant and overreactionary in my previous post. As a moderator on this site it's my duty to conduct myself by the same standards that Steve has asked me to enforce on the site. So I will digress when it comes to the media (I wouldn't know how to defend the likes of FNN, CNN, and MSNBC either). In the case of the 'swine flu' I will simply wait and see. Hopefully the words 'epidemic' and 'pandemic' won't be thrown around too much in any of the world's media until such a determination is warranted. Information/knowledge is key, as long as it is confirmed information from proven sources. I, like anyone else who loves Mexico and people in general, just want this thing to pass with minimal consequences. B&B... I think the negativity is more contagious than the flu. perhaps I need a vacation. I've been away from Cancun too long
Thanks, Steve. You are a good man Yes, I can take the rest of it, but I thought posting domain registration info (although public) was overboard. Thanks for removing it. I really don't care much being call this or that, as long as I know that the admin that is you, welcomes opinions from every side. Now you have said that and that is very valuable, and that would promote a board that has a clash of opinions, and not all 'yes sir' stuff. A yes-sir board will soon die, since it would bore everyone to death quickly. So great. Wonderful. Again, thanks for a great board! stevesteve
