yea it has nothing to do with them bumping people, expedia and orbitz still have rooms available at the oasis for peak week.
But it could be that the travel company he booked through has oversold their allotment of rooms. Just because Expedia and Orbitz still has rooms doesn't necessarily mean that other travel/charter companies have any left. And many time travel cpmpanies still list availability even when there really isn't any.
Travel companies basically buy blocks of rooms from the resort to sell to their clients. Many times they oversell the resort in that they book more people into the resort than they have rooms. When that happens they have to move people to a different resort. Legally when you book through a charter comapny or travel company all they have to do is guarentee youa room in a resort...they do not have to put you in th resort you choose so if they oversell it they can move you elsewhere. One travel site may sell all of it's rooms while another site may still have soem of it's rooms available. Unfortunately, it has also happened that even though a travel company has sold allof it's rooms it still shows availability on their website. Typically if you went through the whole booking processit would notlet you book at that resort even though it stillmght be showing as available. Have a I totally confused you now??? I learned all this from the people at BBG , my travel agent and also by representing some clients who were unhappy that their travel company moved them.
Just because a travel agent or service says there are rooms does not mean that there are any remaining. Just because you have a booking does not guarantee you a room at that hotel Most of the time it does. But nothing should surprise you.
she's just giving you information... which generally is what 'huh.......' requires... clarification. you won't know what happened in its entirety until you get to Cancun, I'm sure.
