We always take Cipro, just in case. You may be able to buy it in the gift shop or across the street at the Pharmacy. It is hard to read the Spanish so if the clerk cannot understand English, you may have to go to the Pharmacia.
Best part of the Pharmacy across the street from the resort is when you get you Credit Card Invoice - Their name shows up on your statement "My Friend Drugs"
hav n fun Cipro worked for me, but i only had to take it one time, but I dont take it unless i really feel terrible, not alcohol induced, and it worked, there was a girl last yr that was feeling terrible and i gave her one and the next day she came up to me and gave me a big hug saying she felt some much better., that's why i take some with me now, cause if u get sick they way I did, it will ruin Ur whole vacation, anyway hope this info helps Mike
The slightest amount of pool water could do it! With the splashing around you a few drops that make it into your drink or mouth could cause severe symptoms. Sorry for your illness but many things can cause it. Hubby only got sick once in 14 trips and that was (we think) caused by a rose he put between his teeth in a bar in a Downtown Cancun Bar. God knows where the water they keep them in comes from. Debbie
We were there from the 10th to the 17th and met all kinds of wonderful people while there. Nobody we know got sick at all. We ate in every restaurant and the buffet.
Believe me, I prepare for the trip. Vitamins, we eat very healthy all the time. Electrolytes, B complex, we avoid pool water like the plague etc. Hubby likes to give the "girls" a kiss. :flash: Well I'll tell ya, mental note: not after they have been exposed to the pool water! YUCK!
We both had this issue last year. We were fine the year before, but the year before we never got in the pool and last year we were in it several days. Where do you get cipro, is it over the counter or rx?
It is a cheap prescription you get from your doc . Cipro is not intended for the 24 hr Montezuma revenge. I copied this info Treatment for Severe Travelers' Diarrhea Severe travelers' diarrhea is defined as three or more loose stools in an 8-hour period and is associated with some combination of cramping, nausea and vomiting, bloody stools, or fever. At this level, travelers are SICK! This degree of travelers' diarrhea should be treated with ORT and a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, (e.g., Noroxin® or Cipro®). Imodium® AD or Lomotil® may be used in conjunction with the antibiotic as described below if fever or bloody stools are not present. If possible, seek physician advice for severe travelers' diarrhea rather than attempt self-medication.
We were.there from the 15-21. I got sick on Sunday night and didn't feel better until Tuesday. I didn't believe it was from too much alcohol and it sounds like I may have been right! I wish I had known about the pharmacy. I will keep that in mind for next year!
