Also flying from the UK but we only have 15kg hold and 5kg carry-on each (flying with Thomas Cook). A challenge to fit it all in but we managed...just!

That's ridiculous. I'd have to leave 90% of my shoes at home. Feel sorry for you Brits. Westjet (popular airline for western Canadians) allows you to bring a 2nd checked bag for only 20 bucks!
