430 amsterdam ave, btwn (80th & 81st) http://www.nycbestbar.com/jakes/ I want to check it out myself. Definitley a special I have'nt had the pleasure of taking advantage of.
If you are staying in Manhattan, you don't need direction for the bar, because their is about seven on one block. I recommend the Marriot Time Sqaure.
Not sure if you've made reservations but here's a thought... The 414 Hotel ----- http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60763-d217630-Reviews-414_Inn-New_York_City_New_York.html. As a born and rasied Texan I always thought of New York as the last place on Earth that I would want to visit. But my mother booked a cruise that ended in NYC; since she had never been there either she wanted someone to show her around the city for a few days. So I signed on as her guide and booked a room at this joint in Oct. 2000 because it was cheap and close to Time Square. Mom was to come into town the next day and booked the Holiday Inn a few blocks north. As it turned out the 414 was a great choise that offered everything I wanted. Clean, comfortable room at a good price. Staff willing to give assistance to the noob traveler in NYC. And a great central jump off point to all of Manhatten. This first trip to NYC changed my mind forever about the city and its people. I now see why many consider this the "greatest city in the world". I'd go back anytime. (And I'd look to stay at the 414) I've been back a couple of times since then and have always had a grand time. Can't wait to do NYC again! PS - My last trip to NYC we stayed at the Crown Plaza Midtown. If you're not on a tight budget I would highly recommend this hotel. Views of Time Square, heart of Broadway, major subway station (multiple lines) right across the street... doesn't get any better. (Unless money is no object and you are at a 5 star suite with limo service at your beck and call.) If you can pop for the room price this is a great place to stay.
I was there in 06. Pretty cool place. Its ideal for us Brits because there are no tourists there. Which ruins the travelling experience ironically As for Hotels in NYC. Whenever I travel I always book through hotwire.com last minute. Saving that there is a Howard Johnson on 51st and 10th which is clean and very affordable. In Miami, I just stay with my Uncle Highly recommend all the bars on 80th through 83rd on Amsterdam.
