Well ... have you checked out the Temptation Resort section on this website? That fits your description perfectly and it's a blast. It's not for the uptight, but based on your description, I don't think that's you. I'd highly recommend.

    Hey Mr and Mrs BigR,

Today I had some family business (kids involved) in the Hotel Zone and afterwards went to Chili's for lunch at the one I referred to in my earlier post. You can eat outside at Chili's and from their deck, walk down to the beach. I took a few photos that I am too lazy to post but if you send me an email address via a Private Message I will be gland to send them to you. One is of the Salvia, taken from the Chili's deck and a couple more of newly renovated beach, that appears to be 80-100 yards wide. Today there were some decent waves.

Cancun's Hotel Zone is shaped like a big "7". The bottom part of the 7 has what most people think is a better beach, in terms of waves really. The top part, often referred to as the "bay side", although it is still the Caribbean Sea and not a bay, has pretty much non existent waves. This is because the currents are changed by Isla Mujeres, which lies off this coast. Here you can literally walk more than 100 yards out in the water and still be waste deep. If anyone has water fears for themselves or their kids, it is far safer on beaches at the "Top of the 7". We do have an occasional drowning death but unfortunately lots of them are alcohol related. But millions of people visit Cancun annually and it is statistically a safe place. Sort of like people getting hit by cars everywhere but the odds are really against it.

    Have fun on your trip.

I always recommend the Palace Resorts. The couples only one is the Sun Palace. It can be a little quiet there, so you can always head up to the Cancun or Beach Palaces. The wonderful part besides their ultimate all-inclusive is that selected tours are also included. Also this year they are offering buy one get one free jungle tour as well as buy one get one free swim with the dolphins!

I would say TTR is probably about what you are looking for also. We have never stayed there but it sounds like a blast.
