FM2 In 9 Days (Counting the Weekend) All I can say is WOW. I turned in my FM2 application about 10:30 am on Monday, October 3. I am picking up my FM2 tomorrow morning, October 12. THIS HAS TO BE A WORLD RECORD FOR CANCUN INM. 7 busness days plus picking up the FM2 tomorrow. The day of the Application took me about 30 minutes or so, mostly standing in line. When I turned in the App the gal told me I could find the status online in 3-4 days. After not finding it by the following Monday, yesterday, I went to check. The lady at the spot to the right of the handicap sign checked and told me to go the the far right counter, that for appts, and they would tell me what to do. I went there and was told that my App was in order and gave me a small printed sheet. I was to return today (to the Citas counter) with 3 headshots, 2 profiles, my CURP, my Passport and my Tramite, which they gave me the first day after accepting my Application materials. This trip took about 15 minutes. Today I returned with those things, went to the Citas desk again and the same gal made sure I had my items, which I did. She told me to take a seat and they would call me when they had my items ready. This took a bit over an hour but I had a book so no big deal, although the place was packed and everyone was encroaching into my space. What a surprise. When I was called, the gal examined and returned my passport and CURP. She then took my photos and pasted them onto the various places, had me sign several places and interviewed me in Spanish. She did speak English and if I hesitated for any reason she repeated the question in English. She then gave me two payment forms to take next door to Banjercito. She told me that I was to return tomorrow morning with the original receipts from Banjercito and two copies of each and that I was very polite and had beautiful eyes and a nice smile. The payment amounts were $2,800 and $659. This trip took about 2 hours at INM and 5-10 minutes at Banjercito. Consulting services are available but I cannot help you with your eye color.
TJ: Omg... Its like... in the real world, jajaja. Congrats mate - thats great news!! Slowly, even Cancun is joining the evolution: INM improves, street-renewals etc.
I picked it up today. You go to the extreme left counter clerk for this process. In and out in 10 minutes or so. Funny thing is that this line has a giant handicap sign. The inference is that perhaps maybe we are all mentally disabled to put ourselves through this process. For me it was a snap. For my buddy Rawkus, well, that's a whole other story. Good luck amigo.
Good work, T.J.! With the FM2 you're well positioned for the changes in the law to be implemented later this year, or early next, and which have been discussed on the thread, below. http://www.cancuncare.com/forum/living-cancun-riviera-maya/20534-new-immigration-regulations.html
Congrats TJ! Im "more than happy" to see what type of mess lies ahead when the new visa comes, and whilst Im still on the "good olĀ“" FM3, haha. Guinea pig if you will.
Actually you are totally wrong Scorpio. I only submitted a copy of my passport, my current FM3, the online one page application form, a copy of my most current electric bill, copies of my most current 3 bank statements and a (one paragraph) letter to INM requesting renewal of my FM3 and changing my migratory status to FM2. And you CANNOT start the renewal process until 30 days before your FM3 is set to expire. In my case, the Exp date was Oct. 31. The 1st was on a Saturday so the earliest I could turn in my app was Monday, Oct. 3, which I did. I got my FM2 yesterday, Oct 12. So, YOU ARE WRONG ON: -"a hell of a paper work" (whatever that means); LESS THAN 10 ITEMS, is not a hell of a lot of paperwork. - "wait, wait wait"; 9 DAYS IS WAIT, WAIT, WAIT?????? Give me a break; and - "Looks like one has to start the renewal process right after the papers for the current years have been issued". YOU CAN'T EVEN DO THAT IF YOU WANT AND IT TAKING A WEEK AND A HALF WOULD NOT EVEN INDICATE ANY EXTRAORDINARY AMOUNT OF TIME, AS YOU SUGGEST. So again, you continue to slam Cancun and Mexico and this post is just another example. Every single point you make in your post is simply more BS.
Gotta agree with CancunScorpio on this one. TJ's right that it's not a lot of paperwork in terms of quantity, but it can be complicated. Pretty much every year I renewed on my own, they gave me incorrect information on what I had to bring in, resulting in multiple trips for a simple renewal. Once I even had to pay a $2000 fine because they gave me the wrong paperwork info and didn't notice until 2 years later. They do seem to be improving with their information, though. And it is a lot of waiting. I think a 9 day wait is the exception rather than the rule, at least in the past year or two. TJ should hire out his immigration experience for some extra cash
Gringation. There is a new sheriff in town and he or she works at iNM. I hope V weighs in on this. His recent experience for himself and his wife were not as fast as mine, but I believe it was the best overall in their time here in Cancun. I stand by my post and I bet your next adventure there will be just fine. The most negative thing I could say about the whole experience was the length of the lines, non-foreigners forcing their way through the mob to the front to ask a question, then forcing their way back, and peoplle standing so close to me that we were touching. So the crowd of people in the lines is the only thing relative to INM. The other two things are just cultural and are everywhere, every day. Jajaja
Our fm3s went in for renewal Monday and we have already been called for fingerprints ! Really quick and no lawyers fees paid.
