Having waited since 28th of September 2010, Im getting fairly f***** fed up with INM´s lack of braincells... Ugh. Tomorrow I have a "phone conference" with the Swedish embassy to see what they can do, if anything at all, that is. IF I finally get it, then Im entering on a regular FMT once I get back from my trip - never going through this again...ever. Enough is enough, haha Ps. Does anyone know if one can cancel an FM3? I have looked on-line, but didnt get any valuable results.
Rawkus, This makes no sense. I turned in my app the day AFTER you turned in yours and I have had my FM3 for about two months. You must have angered th INM gods somehow. There has to be someone you can talk to in order to learn specifically what they need in order to complete you app. I thought you were bringing in an attorney a month ago. Stay focused. Why would you want to cancel it officially? Just sounds like more hassle to me. If you dont want it just forget about it. You might get some minor hassle at the airport when you leave if you have neither a valid FM2/3 or tourist visa but just show your expired FM2/3 and what are they gonna do - deport you? Update on my app: Still havent got it yet (submitted early Dec), have an appt on 15th Feb to provide fingerprints and photos. So a formality one would hope.
Steve: Just curious of how it would work. Im not planning on staying in Mex and thus really dont care is I lose my previous FM3-years. The problem is that I dont have a expired FM3 to show. Immigration has my booklet since 28th of Sept. Im hoping to get some answers tomorrow. T.J.: The INM gods never like me, hehe Its just ridiculous - taking WAAAAY too long. If the embassy cant do anything, Ill "hire" you I just want it sorted, then get the h*** out of Mexico for a bit. Now, from what I understand, I can enter on a FMT even though my FM3 is still valid upon return...? If anyone knows how it works, it would be great to get some kind of confirmation.
My guess is if you say you no longer wish to proceed with your application and want your old expired document back they'll give it you. That would be the sensible course. As for returning, I'm sure it wouldnt be a problem coming back on an FMT just the same as thousands of tourists do every day if you only intend to stay as a tourist and no longer intend to live here permanently.
Rawkus, your friends all know that you are nuts. It seems easier to deal with FM3 renewal issues than to have to decide between being an illegal alien or leaving Mexico for a couple of days in order to avoid being illegal. Look at the big picture dude. And take yourself down to Nader and ask them nicely what the hold up is. Tell them your friend TJ blah, blah blah. You know the story.
T.J: My plan is NOT to be here illegally, thats why I was curious about canceling the FM3, in a proper way that is If it would turn out to be faster, then Id do it in a heartbeat. Im def re-entering on a FMT however, no doubt about it. Ill give an update after I speak to the embassy tomorrow.
I'm never going in there without a lawyer again! The company I work for has a lawyer to take care of immigration tramites. Last Friday I gave her all the necessary documentation along with my $2,600 so I could get permission to get married to a Mexican... should be ready by Monday, apparently. Yay! Same happened with my FM3 renewal last summer... turned in the money and paperwork with the lawyer, then just showed up a month later to give them my thumbprints. Lawyer = the good life.
Lawyers are all well and good, but really this is, in essence, a simple process. I renewed my Fm2 last year and it went ahead with hardly any fuss, this years renewal has been a whole different ballgame even though the rules are exactly the same and my circumstances are identical. The problem is there is too much interpretation and personal opinion involved. How come my paperwork is not adequate one week, then when I go back a week later it all of a sudden it's fine? They really ought to get some QA procedures together and have a consistent way of dealing with things. I mean you've only got to see that half the people in the line are going to queue for an hour or two only to be told come back next week only to fill the queue up again to realise that the 'work flow process' is totally inefficient. 'Immigration Lawyers'... many are not really qualified as lawyers they just know the system or used to work there. Damn, if I'd spent 6 years studing law I sure wouldn't be spending 3 hrs a day in the crowded and sweaty immigration office 5 days a week. But they do know how to make the process quicker and easier because they visit the office every day, are buddies with the guys who call the shots and use their relationship to influence those arbitrary decisions, but at the end of the day the legal requirements are exactly the same whether you use a 'lawyer' or not. Cant help but think that many 'immigration lawyers' are just another facet of corruption.... using their influence to achieve a desired outcome for monetary gain.
Ok, so finally(!!!) good news. My embassy called INM HQ in DF, and they were all but happy(as they have been trying to wash out this crap in "smaller" INM offices...). The lady that handles my case, has been given a warning as of today, 930 am. I have a new case handler whom called me and told me to come there. Just returned and now have an appointment for 22nd of February, where I will present photos and proof of payment. This is exactly why Swedes pay high tax, hehe I sincerely hope that the lady takes the warning seriously. Im aslo "sad" it had to come to this, but, what to do, right? Now Im gonna have a green tea and just relax
