I did about 6 months ago register both home and cell phone and I don't get any calls from them on the cell and on the home phone I only get calls from pre-existing ones.
be careful,...VERY careful with this. I heard the same thing a while back, and after sigining up, learned that some of the info was a hoax. There is truth that a no call list is to be generated for cell phones, however, some of the "no-call" lists that you register with are actually telemarketers trying to get your number! Do your research! PS: I have also heard, on the TV news no less,..that there is currently no such thing as a cell phone no-call list. Caveat emptor!
I registered....and then the next day (last night) got yet ANOTHER call! I think it is a hoax....since getting confirmation of the registration...I've received 3 calls....standard *sigh*
I have yet to get a call from them on my cell, if I do get one, they will wish that they hadn't. On my home phone, I got one from one of my credit card issuers and I was able to get them to lower my interest rate by two points, I did promise that I would use my card tho, which I will (a couple of times) then it goes back into safe keeping.
LOL If you read the print on the FAQ section...it states that it takes up to 30 days to take effect...and companies are required by law to re-check their lists every 90 days...so it could take up to 3 months before ALL of the calls should stop.
Stumbled across this again and have to update the thread with this info ...it is a hoax, and here's snopes' take on the matter: http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/cell411.asp Wouldn't have looked around except for my old high school friend still circulating these.
I have yet to receive a solicitation via my cell phone, but I have received more than a few text messages now and then- but I have checked my bills (which not many people actually do) and found that I was not charged for the text messages. If it means anything, I have Cingular as my provider- for more than 7 years now, and have not had a problem.
I have been foolish enough not too long ago to give my cell number for a point of contact for some real issues...and then begin receiving the odd telemarketting call. Resolved most if not all of 'em, tho.
