Been there many times around June/July and in January never had any issues with mosquitos or other bugs that we can remember. But that said never been to the quiet pool, passed by it on our second trip and I think the last trip we were gonna go skinny dip in it but security suggested the ocean instead. Now the ocean sometimes has the sea lice or jelly fish which suck if you get into them.
True story about the sea lice + jellies. Coming from Hawaii + Jersey Shore (yes crazy amount of jelly fish there), you get used to them. If you have a heart condition or are sensitive to the touch they can be an issue. That being said I forget the name but there is a sun block (available as non sun block) that protects you from sea lice + jelly fish. Google it if you think it may be an issue. Alcohol seems to defend against both though..
You're probably OK in June or July, but we have definitely been chewed when they would move in in swarms in October and possibly Feb (can't remember for sure) so it does happen! Might have been weather related. George
We bought some in April afterr having mosquito bites. First time every in Cancun but it was a cooler April than normal too.
we noticed biters around Paty'Os when we were there in April. first time ever seen this there after 3 years?
I am attractive to biting insects, and had a problem with them in January (not sure if it was mosquitos or other insects). Insect repellant worked great and kept them away, until the one night I forgot to use it! I was bitten all over my legs, and one huge bite right in the middle of my forehead! That didn't look pretty. Had to photoshop the red welt off my face in all our holiday snaps when I got home!
We went last year in early July and boy did we regret not having repellent. This year we are going back and prepared to handle those suckers...so I suggest you take some.
We have been in May, June and July and cannot remember having any issues. I attract them at home. I can stand outside for 5 minutes when they are out and walk away with a dozen bites, while Jeff has none. It doesn't hurt to take a small bottle if you are really concerned, but like I said, I do not remember getting any bites (and trust me, that would make me miserable enough to go to Wal-mart and get some bug spray.) ~Jill~ ~Jill~
One time, but after sucking my blood he spun out of control and was lost forever. But seriously we never had a problem, we were in fact amazed at the lack of skeeters and flies. April 2012.
