Moon Palace rooms Hi we are going in July and looking to see what is the best side to stay on and what has close pool and ocean view buildings? I know a lot to ask but excited and hoping for the best...
Here is my trip report sorry for the delay Life has been crazy the airport was not fun with all these time share people…… we took a van to the MP and checked in the sunrise side We then took a golf cart to our room. ( the golf villas ) what a nice area The Room was huge a king size bed, couch and huge tub. We had a door bell and 24 hour room service. Concierge on 24 hours. What ever you wanted he got for you, if you wanted meals that were not on the menu they would get them for you and bring them to your room. I want vodka and a whole bottle was in my room in twenty min. Everything was more then I expected. Being in the golf villa was really nice just a commute to the pool was 25 mins round trip LOL We had so much fun , the only thing was the American express desk people were not helpful at all, they over booked our van and we almost miss our plane home. I thank everyone on this site that help me!
Thanx for the info regarding the American Express folks. It appears they are also involved in selling tours and try to snag you before the Palace courtesy desk people get to you. Before we were shuttled to the MP we had been given a voucher or reminder to meet with an American Express rep on site for some kind of presentation. Well, we missed it (intentionally because we sniffed it out) but it also was meant to serve to arrange the time for our van trip back to the airport. The rep didn't look very pleased to see us walk up the day before our departure date, and we wound up being booked on an empty van...probably arranged at the last minute because of our tardiness. I tipped the driver extra for driving all that way just for the two of us.
well the MP desk was a big pain, they would call at 7 am , 9 am and 12 we never went down to see them. i finally complianed and no more calls i feel the villa you were treated a little one on one, they are only 10 units in each villa and someone there to help you 24 hours a day ( i forgot to add that )
I understand the aggravation. We avoided it in part because we sat down with them on the first day. Were able to get some maps and pamphlets and schedule our free tours that way. Unfortunately they will try to talk you into spending part of the next day at a timeshare spiel. I would think it's easier to say "no" at the courtesy desk rather than in the timeshare shark room.
Tips, food & Drink Traveling to Moon Palace on July 2 can't wait, just wondering what tips are suitable at bars, restaurants e.t.c. in the hotel. Also can anyone recomend any special meals of cocktails the hotel does?
As the MP is AI, no tips are solicited...but you can do so. I never tipped the barkeep or waiters...I never spotted a tip jar and certainly as this is an AI there was no tab to write in a little extra as a tip. I have tipped the housemaids and porters. $1.00/day left on the nightstand when leaving for the day to the pool or wherever. I liked the Mayan coffee to accompany the after-dinner dessert. Includes carmelizing (or, whatever...setting on fire, for sure!) liquor before it is added to a particularly strong cup o' joe. You have to request this. I don't think this is done at the buffets, tho. I can't speak to all the special meals or cocktails the hotel does as there are at least ten different restaurants and grills scattered around the property...concentrated mostly in the lobbies and pool areas, tho. I had a wonderful experience interacting with the waiters and chefs at a poolside grill (the one with a gazebo) late at night when most peeps were inside. Very, VERY nice people. If you like sushi, you should get opportunities at the Nizuc side lobby bar area, and definitely at the Asian restaurant on the Sunrise side. There is a Brazilian-style grill-restaurant at the Nizuc now, so I guess you know what to expect there.
Return to Moon Palace My husband and I honeymooned at Moon Palace in November of 2004 and absolutely loved it. We are returning for a trip in August 2006, and can't wait. We were a bit worried about the storm damage, but were assured that they sustained minimal damage, and are AOK. Can't wait. We stayed on the Sunrise side and it was absolutely beautiful. Frozen mudslides mid afternoon at the swing bar; coffee and Bailey's in the lobby bar, with the piano player, pre-dinner; it was all so great. I have been to many AI resorts, but this place beats them all as far as service and quality of food. We were pampered for sure. The only drawback is we would have preferred vodka and bourbon in our in-room bar, as that is what we normally like to drink. Other than that, what a special resort.
