*L*.. just to chime in because I hate stereotypes... I work in computers and started my career as a programmer and it's not all taped glasses, snorts and plaid pants anymore.

Computer geeks discovered soap, combs and real women in the late 90s... . We don't live in mom's basement anymore and some of us actually get married to good lookin women..

Mind you there is still the occasional super geek that falls into Waste's description but they're few and far between.

The new geek will take over the world and get all the hot women.

 

True. I know a lot of people who went into computer programming in college and none of them fit this stereotype whatsoever. Then again, I happen to like nerds, so maybe they did and I just didn't notice

Nerd or not, smart trumps hot in most categories anyways. Bill Gates, the king of all nerds, has more money than God. I'm guessing there aren't too many women who wouldn't at least go on a date with him if he suddenly became single.

Not this team... but they're not your average computer geeks. They all have PhDs, they all sit on chairs within multiple standards and technology organizations (IEEE, TCP/IP, Hypertransport...) and spend most of their day brainstorming the next big ASIC and high speed bus technology. When I first started with the company years ago, I joined the office hockey playoff pool... They had their own pool... something to do with how many contributions to linux distributions they got credit for... To take it up a level, different distributions were weighted differently.

...as for soaps and combs... let me find last year's Xmas party pics, and you be the judge...
