My son (18) and daughter (14) are going to meet my wife and I in Cancun this summer. We are going down a week early for our own week together and then we are going to spend a week with the kids. Do we need anything special for my son to escort my daughter out of the country or will their passports be enough?

I believe she will need a letter of consent from both parents to exit the country. I'd check with your travel agent.

My son had to have my consent (thank God), to visit his grand parents in Europe. His mama threw a royal fit, but I thanked the airline for making sure it was ok.

Ask your airline for their regulations. Mexican Immigration does not ask for the letter of consent from absent parents any longer. The law here changed in early 2006 I believe and now they will allow minors in regardless of who they are with or are not with. Kind of screwy but true.

So the only possible problem the kids will encounter is if the airline wants a letter, some do, some do not.

We traveled to Cancun in January 2007 with two minor children and one parent for each child. USA3000 never asked for the notarized "permission to travel" letters we carried and nobody in Mexico asked for the letters either.
