Wow...didnt mean to start a mini war. lol. I guess I wasnt very specific. Im only on the fence about the issue itself, not whether Im going to throw away $2200. Being on the fence about this is my own set of personal beliefs, just like some think its a non issue. We love Cancun. We are going whether they release him today or next year. Never was an issue. End of story.
To clarify, I'm torn on the discussion of safety were something to happen such as rioting etc. because tempers flared AND torn between whether to say "he's a fucking idiot" or "hmm, they perhaps are over reacting." (But I also don't own any guns so I don't know the laws about guns ANYWHERE SO...). Not torn about traveling to Mexico, in absence of safety concerns (of which there seem to be none). I may have misread the original post and I re-read mine and was definitely not clear as to what I was torn about. You all are not mind readers??? But I tried to subtly hint at it. As someone else said, was trying to avoid the drama that would be sure to follow but apparently helped create it anyway And jinx! I didn't read ms mcraes post above first lol See what we did??

Border Patrol spokesman Agent Ramiro Cordero says U.S. agents found the wounded man on June 5 near a Texas farm not far from the Mexican border. The El Paso Times reports Saturday four other armed men were arrested when they crossed the border. Cordero says these men turned out to be Chihuahua state police officers who had mistakenly crossed into the United States while looking for the gunshot victim. Cordero says the officers were returned to Mexico two days later. Meanwhile, Barack Obama turned over the 5 worst terrorists at Gitmo in exchange for Bowe Bergdahl, a deserter who may have helped the Taliban kill U.S. troops. But Obama has not had ONE WORD to say about the jailed U.S. Marine hero rotting in a Mexican jail. Disgusting.
I just posted this little tid bit for those who questioned how one can claim they mistakenly forgot, one us marine. or crossed without knowing, four Mexican police officers, apparently its not that uncommon.
Did she mean because of this man's actions and consequences or safety? I'm always surprised at the people (including family) who say...they would never travel to Mexico because it is unsafe; we could be kidnapped by the drug cartel or others for ransom and never return. Seriously...we always tell them that the Hotel Zone in Cancun is as safe as any place. Stay at the resort, go on excursions, go shopping, walk around, see the sites and see shows. Just keep your head about you. Don't be walking around dead drunk in the middle of the night after leaving a club, or get into a fight at a Club. Be respectful and have fun! The Federales protect their tourists and tourism industry. We have never been afraid in Cancun, or Isla Mujeres, or Puerto Morales, or Puertos Adventuras, or Tulum. Just be smart. 45 days til we land!
Active-duty U.S. military personnel are verboten from entering Mexico at all. I don't like the word "inadvertent" when it comes to carrying weapons, either.
US Military are not verboten from entering Mexico. Certain areas of Mexico have travel restrictions to the military and certain Commands have put restrictions on their units. Cancun is definitely not on that list which is great, because there is no way in Hell I will miss my Vacation!
Lets remember that the ex Marine isnt in prison for illegally crossing the border, he is in prison for illegally 'importing' firearms: This from a guy who has visited Tijuana several times before and apparently has a girlfriend there. He'd have to drive 15 miles past a border checkpoint and ignore obvious signs that he was entering Mexico. Considering there is quite a lot of gun crime in Mexico between gangs and that guns are illegal, almost all guns here are imported from the US it's not surprising that it is viewed harshly. Seems that the Mexican Police (who were likely also armed) were trying to locate a gunshot victim who had headed that way, in the course of their duty. They probably strayed a couple of hundreds yards across an unmarked border. Not that I tend to defend Mexican Police very often, but the two scenarios are quite different and not equally comparable imho.
People who listen to Faux new have no idea what really happened. I want our guy out too but he broke the law and as stupid as Mexican justice seems to be he has to bare the repercushions of what he did I posed for pictures with guys with mac 10s in Roserita Beach at an outdoor bar. They were throwing dollars telling the Mexicans to lick their boots. I went to jail. We all went to jail. Interpol, the whole works. I did nothing wrong but pose in some pictures with Middle Eastern Ass Wipes and spent time in Mexican jail. If this dude is innocent then I am sorry hes there but I have a strong feeling he is an American dumbass who broke the law and now must face the penalitys of his own bad behaviour. Please don't belive everything Gretta, Sean and Bill say. They are twisted individuals promoting an adgenda which has nothing to do with real American values
