smash those bugs! Its maybe not recommended by the medical fraternity, but if I spend my hard-earned on a vacation trip, I often take a mild dose of antibiotic while away to help ward off the nasty's. I find E-mycin doesn't upset the stomach much and I take a pro-biotic as well to balance it. The combo of a mix of people, different local bugs, air travel, etc, all conspire to give you upsets. A broad spectrum antibiotic helps I find. May not work for all though. And yeah, be sensible. Don't eat raw stuff or food that has been sitting too long. keep up the alcohol intake to assist your immune system also.... One of the worst experiences of my life was with a band working on a cruise ship when a sick bug went through the ship. The crews cabin's are really cramped and close so it spread like wildfire through the crew and on through the guests. Is there a word that is worse than horrendous? Anyway, as part of the entertainment crew, we has to keep playing daily to keep up the 'atmosphere' on the ship, so we were summoned to the medicals and the doc gave us this strong dose up. "it'll make you shit," she says cheerfully, "but at least you wont get as sick" Weeellll. It kinda worked, we avoided the vomiting bit, but it is one of the few times in my life I was afraid to fart...
