Hi I have been to a few... La destileria is alright its a chain they do more traditional mexican stuff its not too bad. Las Margaritas is good not great.

If you want traditional mexican yucatan food head to Labna (http://www.labna.com) or La Habichuela (http://www.lahabichuela.com) I prefer the later they are located in the city not the hotel zone. Owned by the same people.

The city is not bad at all. Def a diff feel than the hotel zone but its perfectly safe and actually a nice break from the hotel zone.

    rockrgrrrl,

Just keep it simple and to to La Casa del las Margaritas. It is at Plaza La Isla which is around km 12 in the Hotel Zone. An easy bus ride.

Your comment about your b/f may not wanting to leave the hotel leads me to believe that this is the best recommendation.

But if you can drag him to downtown there are many great eating options and then you can go to Avenida Yaxchilan and hit some of the clubs there. There is nothing big like Coco Bongo but there is live music, the drinks are always 2 for 1 which works out to about $2 US per beer or simple mixed drink.

Send me a PM if you want directions or details.
