Michelle is abnsolutely right about staff being checked when they leave BBG. Every single staff member is searched just before they leave. The only way for them to get something out of the resort is with a note saying that the item is a gift. The note must be signed by the person giving the gift and must include the persons room number. The staff member must also now show the gifted item to the manager on duty as well as clear the item with the note through security. I have known cases where prior to letting the employee go with item if it is something of significant value the manager will hold that item until it can be verified with a guest that it is in fact a gift. I've tried to forget the "old days" where Michelle, Steve, Jamie and I were lambasted and called just about everything under the sun for trying to set people straight about BBG. For whatever reason there are a lot of people out there who want to tear down it's reputation and those who frequent it.
We have been to Mexico for the past 4 years and never had any problems. We use the room safe, take only what we are going to use, and take few (if any) expensive items. There are bad people everywhere in this world who are looking for a target. Do not look like a target, or act like a target, and the odds are you will not be a target. As for “management knowing right where to look” you do not have to have a degree in criminology to find hidden property in a hotel room. It is good management/security procedures to return guests property. The writer of the review should have been commending BBG for the return of their property. I did not see the review but I would guess the writer was somewhat negative towards the resort due to this or another incident. Cal
Here's the review in question: Traveler rating: Cancun: Blue Bay Getaway Resort: "WOULD NOT RECOMMEND" sylvia0789, los angeles Jul 30, 2007 My experience with this property took place in: June, 2007 I statyed there June 7-10. Total of 7 girls, 3 guest rooms. Food was okay, service in restaurants was excellent but overall not satisfied. During our stay one of the girls noticed a dress was missing. We notified management and they came to our rooms to inspect. To our surprise he went directly for the mattress and lifted it up. Her dress and her room mates dress were neatly tucked between the mattress and boxspring. Second room with 3 girls same thing. My room, under my mattress we found my blouse. Money was missing and 2 tops were never recovered. The management did not do a thing to compensate us for being violated, nor did they take proper steps in assuring us that this would never happen again. Obviously this was not the first time this has happened. I WOULD RECOMMEND YOU LOCK YOUR LUGGAGE AND PUT ALL YOUR PERSONAL THINGS AWAY SHOULD YOU DARE TO STAY THERE!!! Is it just me or does it sound suspicious that all three rooms claim to have had something missing from them??? It seems like it is more than a coincidence that 7 girls traveling together stayed in 3 rooms and in all 3 rooms things were supposedly missing.
I can't remember if it was BBG or Club Med, but a maid put my friends shoes against the wall under the headboard of the bed, dead center. My friend spotted the shoes when she dropped something and it rolled under the bed. It really doesn't matter where it happened. After hearing that, I check under the bed before I leave the hotel. I'd be mortified if my double-dong was stolen! DougEfresh
It reeks of suspicion! What kind of compensation was she looking for? MONEY in exchange for management finding her items? Yeah....that's the ticket! Then she wants management to assure her that it won't happen again....why is that....so she can then sue and say "management assured me that it wouldn't happen again and it did." Sounds just like those folks who go into the grocery store and have fake "accidents" and claim injury and want the stores insurance company to compensate them. Or, those folks who burn down their own store or wreck their own car in order to claim some insurance money. I'm not buyin it........ I just hope she never returns to BBG to only spoil it for those who really like it there. Michelle
Same here, never had a problem at BBG or Mexico in general. Been traveling to Mexico for 15 years now and have enjoyed each trip.
We've never had a problem and I really can't imagine the majority of the maids putting their jobs in jeopardy just to have someones clothes.
I guess anything can happen and it could happen anywhere but we have been to BBG 5 times now and never had anything taken at all. I have even forgotten to put my wallet in the safe and it was right where I left it. Not very smart, but true. Anyway, it should be noted that we all need to be careful with our valuables anywhere we go!
