forgive me for saying this but ... I think Kate was written to be the average woman when it comes to romance. She knows that she should want the nice, safe, depenable guy (Jack)... but ignores him by flirting with the liar, cheat and all around bad guy (Sawyer) who will only end up causing them grief. When she finally realizes what she should do (last nights ep) it's too late because the good guy has moved on.
The other option is that Penny was on the chopper and is in the ocean floating around or dead. I think I know why Desomond joined the army and ended up in military prison now too..... After Penny's dad rejects him he joins the army to try to prove himself to her father. At some time though he either deserts or commits a cowardly act, both of which could result in a hefty prison sentence. A few times in season 2 and 3 Desmond mentioned that he is a coward and he fought Charley when Charley called him a coward.... touchy subject eh? He then tried to win the race around the world to once again prove himself to Penny's father..... this actually goes along with a theme in the show.. daddy issues.... Kate, Sawyer, Jack, Sun, Jin... almost all of the losties have daddy issues.... Desmond's is just his potential father-in-law.
I'm so glad that Jin is the father!...Still don't trust Juliet :evil: And what about the guy w/the patch??? I thought he was dead? Gotta love this show!!
