I think the best answer is...do both. Run 5 miles at a good pace one night...the next night, alternate 400 meter bursts for speed (2 or 3 minutes). Then walk 400 meters. Repeat that 6-10 times. Try to vary your routine between distance, speed bursts, hills, etc. Your body tries to become efficient at any work you force it to do. If you can kind of keep your body guessing, you can continue to progress, rather than plateau.

This sounds interesting- i did a juicing cleanse and totally get the bathroom comment but i felt fantastic being completely vegan for the week. Problem with it is its not a realistic lifestyle plan. We are typcially healthy eaters and gym it everyday. Our plan is to continue to so the gym at Temptations, its our first visit, can someone share some insight on what the gym is like? Air conditioned? Equipment, is it busy etc? We like to go early morning but not sure if this resorts late night partying will support that lol- we may need to make some minor adjustments.

Hi, its not that you will burn more or less calories, people will do interval trainer to help build the cardiovascular capacity to increase progression, run faster t cut their time down etc. It also help ti train your anaerobic energy system to get firing faster which will carry oxygen through your body faster allowing you to feel more energized during your workouts and not feel burnt out. This will take some time to build up after starting intervals for you to feel and notice a change. In summary it really helps with the Power in your performance.

Did a thread on this in Jan/Feb and there are some photos posted from some fabulous members :) If you search for my posts, you should be able to find it - just do Gym as the topic and sillyleo as the user in your search parameters. I'll try to find it for you, too :)

It has to do with the mechanism by which your body provides energy during said exercise, aerobic versus anaerobic. Long story and lots of science short, HIIT is superior for burining fat.

Yes, and possibly no. There is a theory that is affects EPOC (Excess post-exercise oxygen consumption)- after burn - meaning, it increases your resting calorie burn throughout the rest of the day. I think this may depend on the person but it does DEFINITELY seem to work for me. If I do tons of low to moderate intensity cardio, I see little to negative results (meaning, my muscle mass is impacted). However, if I do shorter sessions of high intensity intervals, I drop fat like no body's business - like to the point that other trainers literally will comment that they have never seen results like that.

I must also add that I am OCD about logging calories AND tracking my macros in the MyFitnessPal app and do not generally eat back my exercise calories (sometimes I will if I am truly hungry and not just bored or annoyed - my two downfalls for over eating).

What I'm still trying to figure out is the higher rep lower weight vs. lower rep higher weight formula for me, personally. The research is all over the place and it seems like different body parts respond differently on my own body so very frustrating since that is the one thing I am very bad about tracking! And the app tracks that stuff, too, so I don't have any excuses - guess I'll start today lol

Ok, running late on getting in my first leg day since Betty and Boop moved in!
