So this trip was not only the best vacation, but the best week of my life (so far). Some already know how this trip came to be, but I'll recap anyway: I (Alan) had this vacation planned and paid for since May with my (then) girlfriend. As these things sometimes go, we broke off the relationship in early August. After dealing with those issues, my attentions turned to this vacation, and whether I'd go solo, ask a buddy to go, cancel, or whatevs. So, I did the logical thing and decided to ask my ex-wife (Joyce) that i hadn't seen, spoken to or otherwise contacted in 20+ years. We were married at 21, parted at age 24 with no kids or other assets to squabble over. I moved to western Wyoming, Joyce remained in Michigan. After a respectable period of Facebook stalking, I called and asked her. Joyce, of course, questioned my marital status, intellect, sanity and decision making skills, but agreed to go a day or 2 later. A zillion texts and a couple months later, we fast forward to the Cancun International Airport on Saturday, October 27. The original plan was to meet in Houston and fly in to Cancun together, but Sandy had other ideas. My flight arrived in Cancun, hers was about 1 ½ hours behind. I waited for her before going thru immigration by a cunning plan that involved dragging my feet, watching a movie on my phone in the window well of the arrival terminal, chatting with the security guy in the immigration hall, letting people pass by me in line, stepping out of line, using the bathroom and generally moving slow, all the while checking the progress of her flight on my phone while trying not to expire of sheer anticipation. And then there she was! Coming down the escalator was Joyce, looking truly amazing. The years have been very kind to her. If you have not met her, she has a gorgeous smile that can light up a not only a room, but an entire Latin American country. I’ve never been so happy to see someone. I gave her a hug and kiss and we caught up while in line for immigration and then customs. She got the red light in customs but all the “contraband” was in my bags. We found the USA Transfers guy (awesome service) and grabbed a margarita before heading to the resort. We chatted it up on the way to the resort and got checked in. Due to 96% occupancy we were given a 3rd floor room double queen room over the quiet pool with the option of moving Monday. We didn’t change rooms. We hit the buffet for dinner (very good) and the waiter took it upon himself to ensure that we sampled various shots of booze. From there we hit Patio’s and started meeting the gang. It’s so fun getting to know peeps from all over the place. Joyce and I are both smart asses, so I’m sure that if it wasn’t for Joyce’s looks I’m sure that I would have been escorted out. After the music stopped we stripped down and jumped in the sports pool to cool off. Then we jumped into the ocean to warm up! We left our clothes (and room key) by the sports pool, which were missing when we returned from the ocean. Apparently security decided to keep our clothes dry and safe in the front lobby while we dripped dry naked on the deck by the pool. Soon enough security delivered our stuff to us. Sunday let us have our first look around the resort in the daylight. After breakfast we wandered down the beach and had a look around. We decided to take the bus (R2, 7.5 pesos) down to Wal-Mart and visit Market 28. Wal mart is just like it is in the US, everyone is speaking Spanish. Market 28 was fun, a local befriended us, found us some yummy fruit trees on the walk there us and steered us to his buddies shops. We sampled and bought some tequila, I found Joyce some pretty dragonfly jewelry and we found some various other fun souvenirs of Mexico. Apparently, it is a common practice of the local shops to ensure that the customers do not die of thirst. Several tequila shots and beers later, we decided to go back to the resort for the serious drinking. We met more quality CCC peeps at the sexy pool and generally had a blast. We cleaned up and had dinner at the Asian restaurant, which was excellent. Also, Joyce got her nips pierced. No, not at the restaurant, silly, on the beach, after we got out of the pool. Monday was the Boobs Cruise. It was awesome. We met even more awesome peeps and drank a great deal. It is difficult for me to pinpoint many details of this adventure, due to acute alcohol intoxication. I can relate that I lost a pair of sunglasses and some sunblock. And at some point, Joyce was upset with me due to some poor behavior on my part. I apologized profusely, and after a good night’s sleep, all was well. Tuesday we went to Tulum and Xel-Ha. We arranged a private trip thru USA Transfers, they are top notch. Tulum was very impressive, and the beach there was absolutely beautiful. Make sure that you charge your camera battery before you go. Xel-ha was a lot of fun. The food and drinks were great, the snorkeling was really good. We kinda ran out of time and didn’t get to swim with the manatees. Next time. Tuesday evening was the toy party. We met even more of the CCC gang and had a great time. After a hilarious “not-so-newlywed game”-which was a fun with an ex-spouse of over 20 years- we drew our gift: a blow-up sheep. I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time. We hit Paty’os and had a lot of fun giving and receiving beads. After the music ended there Brewster played an acoustic set at the sports pool. That was a highlight of the trip. We also took a quick dip in the ocean, but took precautions to hide out clothes this time! Wednesday was Halloween. I put on my finest orange and black board shorts, Joyce put on a pair of black cheekys and we had an absolute blast in the pool. We were in until it closed, made some more new friends. We cleaned up and hit Nice Shoes and Paty’os for the Halloween Party. We made the top 10 for the costume contest but it the night belonged to Chewbacca. Not ones to dwell on defeat, we quickly rallied and danced the night away with an assortment of sexy pirates, witches, sailors, Vikings, harem girls, devils, gangsters, sheiks, inmates, a guy dressed as a mens room and other inebriated folks. Thursday was bittersweet, with the knowledge that the trip was coming to an end on Friday and that Joyce and I were going back to our homes 1640 miles apart. We took the ferry to Isla Mujeres and took a golf cart tour of the island. We saw the Temple of Ixchel, Turtle Farm, some really cool houses and shops. We bought a yummy hot dog wrapped in bacon from a street vendor. We did a little shopping and watched the local fishermen bringing in some bonito. We saw a beautiful sunset from the top deck of the ferry. Back at the room, we kinda did a little packing and grabbed some dinner. We headed down to Patyos drank like fish. At some point, we decided to just stay up all night. At like 5:30 or so, as the sun was coming up, was called it a night. Or day. Whatever. At 8:15 the front desk called to alert us of our transfer van. We had a fine breakfast at Bubba Gumps in the airport and departed for Houston. We flew to Houston together and we were scheduled to go our separate ways from there. Joyce walked me down to my gate. Saying goodbye sucks, but we will see each other in Vegas in January and we’re returning to Temptation in April. The staff at Temptation was truly outstanding. The food was excellent, the drinks were great and service was fantastic. I purposely left out names and CCC handles for fear of leaving someone out. We met so many awesome people and enjoyed meeting everyone. There were some crazy moments and everything was so much fun. Thanks to all of you for the best week of our lives. The bottom line is- if you are on the fence about asking your ex-spouse of over 20 years if they want to go to Temptation resort with you- just do it. What’s the worst thing that could happen? Alan
