John - if you have a digital camera, it will be generally cheaper to replace it rather than repair it. My old camera (4 year old Pentax digital) died a day before a big trip so we replaced and it with a new camera, a Canon Powershot A630. Turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Bob
Thanks, I'll try posting in the other forum as well. As for just buying a new camera... that's why we bought this Canon SD600 last year. It just appears that the lens motor died. Had the same problem with a previous Canon and had it repaired in Merida. I was hoping that I wouldn't have to make that trek again... gas, hotel and my time added up to 5 times the cost of the repair. Besides that, we always love our time in Merida.
