This is our first time at TTR and we are trying to find what brand of liquors are served. Do they carry top shelf, middle of the road or end of the road brands
from what I understand, it's now middle of the road stuff. All I care about is the Jim Beam. Granted, I'd prefer Jim Black, Jack, or something like that, but "normal" Jim will do.
Re: Liquors there's a liquor store right across the street. You could also take the bus into town to WalMart.
There basic liqour is crap of the crap. Think of the cheapest stuff in the US and Temptations is the cheapest of the Mexico. Beyond that they got like Smirnoff, Bacardi, and Jim Bean. So I guess middle of the road on that front. You'd think being in Mexico they'd have a decent selection of Tequila but nope they got like three brands to choose from and none of them are that great. Re: Liquors meh... I've had worse than the low-budget stuff at TTR when I was younger (Popov & Mohawk gin and vodka, Ten High whiskey, etc...), you won't get sick from it, but it's definitely not something you wanna expect to bring a refined palette to. The alcohol serves one purpose - to get drunk. It does it's job admirably too (my wife got quite hammered from only 2 Long Islands!), but if you want taste, it's better to bring something to the resort. The barkeeps will stash it and pour it for you too. Just remember to tip 'em.
Be sure to ask the bartenders for the better brands, and they will be glad to make your drinks with those instead of the lighter fluid tasting liquor. The Bacardi Solero is a very good dark rum, and the Wyrobba (sp?) is an excellent vodka. Blat vodka is the worst I have ever had, and used to be the bar stock. No Jaeger or anything like that.
