I obviously do not understand Cancun hotel economics, I would think people coming back and paying for rooms would be a good thing. I understand that they make a huge upfront on timeshares and then still bend the owners over for AI fees but people in a room still = money right?

this is sad but not surprising. While we look at things and see nothing wrong with TR the company is about making a profit. That's what all companies are about.

I can say that if I was running things I would have kept things the same and played off of the fact that TR is unique within Mexico. They're not hedo and not a family resort they fill a niche market that keeps people coming back.

But on the other hand... I've heard about things changing for the "worse" before and really it was all talk. Some weeks the games are more wild than others.. some times the crowds are crazy ..sometimes their not.

We all will have to visit for ourselves and make up our own minds.

Chinos, Lalo and Omar made up a great team... but nothing lasts forever.

Yeah - that could be true too. I mean lets face it - they don't even TRY to impress and sell timeshare's to British people and you can tell cuz they nearly always stick us in the s**t rooms at the back. Unless you tell them you want a different room.

Our 1st room was overlooking to road at the front - which was OK for a little while until some noisy buggers next door woke me up at 3 am (on a few of the nights I went to bed early ha ha ha) and them some guy in the room opposite was howling (I know WTF???? :!: )

We'll probably go back next year - we spend so much on holidays from the UK - we may as well go somewhere we love.

    Hey Max,
That howler must have been all over the place...I heard him (or them) on a couple of occasions around 1:30/2:00 a.m. and our room was in the D block overlooking the Sexy pool!!! I figured it was "wheelchair boy" and let it pass...LOL!
    Cheers,

I have an idea - why don't we all pitch in and get our own resort. Then we could hire them all back and run it the right way. A few bucks (well, maybe more than a few) from each of us and we could take over management of one of the resorts in Cancun and do it up right.

Member/owners would get a preferred rate and Steve could help with the marketing. It could be made into a members only private club.

Just a thought. Let me know when you're ready to start. :D

I know of a resort just down the road that's available.

Maybe a half to one million dollars total. If you want to buy a resort then it would be about 25 million or more for a small to medium size resort.

I would take over management from a resort holding company that owns the resort but doesn't actively run it. The big cost is marketing once it's up and running.

I have been in the travel business for 15 years and also in the vacation membership sales business for 5 years. Most major hotels are not owned by companies such as Hilton, Hyatt, Holiday Inn and such. Investment companies own the buildings and the hotel companies manage them. All we would need is the start-up cost and any refurbishment that need to be done, then operating cash.

It used to be that if you had somewhere near half a million dollars you could do just fine. But with the economy today I'd have to do a lot of research first.

It may be something worth looking into if enough people were interested.

I kind of said it as a lark but it could work. Especially if Tempation keeps messing up.

Think about it - 1,000 members investing $1,000 each is $1,000,000.00.
Or 500 investing only $2,000 each.

    I'm ready!!!!! :D
