This trip was only 3 months in the making- a week after coming back from our 4th trip to BBG/TTR in April- I asked Joyce where she wanted to spend our 5th anniversary- well lo and behold- she said TTR.... Awoke bright and early (3:30am) on thursday 7/31. Had a 7am flight leaving BWI and connecting thru Charlotte. Luckily live only about 30 min from the airport... Trip down was never as smoothe as this one. Landed at 11:10am cancun time and actually got to the lobby a little after noon (made 2 other stops along the hotel zone). No lines at customs and immigration and got the green lite. Our transport was waiting for us. Will definitely travel mid-week again. On each of our prior trips we had a 2nd floor room overlooking the quiet pool and we wanted the same for this trip. Upon check-in the "mole-man" (can't remember his name but you repeaters know him by his distinctive mole on his face) said the only rooms they had overlooking the quiet pool had double beds. well we ain't exactly double bed size people... Upon giving him $10 he suddenly "found" a 2nd floor room with a king size bed. Room wasn't quite ready so we headed to margaritas for lunch then to the pool- immediately saw Lalo and Chinos and exchanged hugs and greetings... Back to the lobby to get our room keys and went uptairs to change- room was on the 2nd in the corner overlooking the quiet pool near the Italian restuarant- and our room did have a bathroom door! Changed then back to the pool... most of our days were alot alike. Drinks, floating in the pool, watching games (didn't participate in any this time), meeting forum and non forum folks and more drinks. As this was thursday- it was casino nite and Joyce and I always participate- so we didn't want to get too trashed our first day. We stopped by the hut saw Sergio and bought 2 tix for the cruise the next nite. We did meet Laura & Russ and John (his wife Kim was "under the weather" but we did get to meet her the next day) during the afternoon... Didn't get a chance for our usual afternoon snooze... rest of the days, we enjoyed getting a couple of lounge chairs on the beach in the shade to get some zzzz's. About 7ish went upstairs to shower then down to the Paty O Lounge for cocktails. Normally I have scotch on the rocks (Johnny Walker Red) for my predinner drink- but Oliver (after greeting us warmly) said they had a bottle of Glen Livet- no complaint here! Joyce enjoyed Smirnoff and Cranberry. Dinner in the buffet then back to room to change into pj's for the casino nite. There were only about 1/4 to 1/3 of the attendees dressed for the games but those who did had fun. Joyce and 4 others at Chino's ladies only table were all dressed in pjs and ended up undressed (they just HAD to get the 50 extra chips)...LOL. Ended up staying in our pj's the rest of the nite in Nice Shoes then getting the infamous midnite burger at Margaritas- A great ending to a great first day... Friday was more of the same (and also our 5th wedding anniversary)... Slept in, had an omelette (just love them!) and mimosas for brunch, then to the pool for bloody mary's followed by miami vice's then anejo y coka (aged bacardi) for me and smirnoff y dieta for Joyce. Watch the daily "sexy game" ate a late lunch, take our beach snooze, back into the pool, meet lots of nice folks, drink... etc. We also watched thick black smoke coming up from somewhere on the water (too far to see what caused it) for a few hours. Took a couple of pix of it also. Never did find out what exactly it was and we hoped no-one got hurt. Anyway, upstairs to shower, back to Patty O lounge for pre dinner drinks. For Friday it was pre-booze cruise drinks. The booze cruise was an absolute blast. Oh- a few minutes into the cruise, a women walks up to Joyce and says- you were next to me last nite at Chino's table! Michele is the one planting a nice kiss on Joyce's cheek in one of the pix... also met Zim and his new bride form Staten Island- they had a great time dancing at Carlos and Charlies. Saturday and Sunday- just plain fun. Continued to meet nice folks including Don and Ann (13 straight years at BBG/TTR) and Mitchell (aka infidel and diverdown) all the way from Iraq on R&R. The next day his wonderful friend Victoria from Houston showed up- a simply bubbly wonderful person. Also learned how to play flip cup from Bryan (nokidsyet)- who needed one more guy to join to make the sides even. After 3 rounds (5 guys vs 5 girls) I bowed out and gave my spot to someone who hopefully did better than me... for those who don't know the game- a plastic cup is filled 1/3 with beer. You chug the beer then place the cup right side up on the edge of the bar. Using one or 2 fingers you flip the cup so it lands open face down on the bar. A fun "relay race"... There were a group of entertaining erotic dancers sat nite. Then alot of people stayed around in Nice Shoes for dancing... this was also the last time we had a midnite hamburger con queso... Sunday, I got up in time to make reservations at the Italian place so we could have a nice anniversary dinner... Pablo was the bartender and sent us over 2 very nice shots (1 was a rainbow and the 2nd was an orgasm) - had a great dinner then had the sexy coffee- if you haven't tried it, it's worth it just for the way they prepare it in front of you... there were no games in nice shoes, but they did have DJ in the Patty O Lounge. This was the nite that Joyce asked about a drink she saw and Alfredo made sure that her glass of Cosmopolitans was never empty. Ended up talking to 2 very nice sister-in-laws from tennessee then slowly made our way up to our room later than we wanted to.... but a great evening. I know there are others who I haven't mentioned who we met but, my mind (and liver) are still slowly recovering. Oh- there were Cory and Tory from Milwaukee another honeymoon couple who both won their respective beer drinking contest and Chris and Andrea from Texas who entered just about every contest they could... fun, fun people... Although we had a not so smoothe trip back to reality (ended up running thru Charlotte airport to make our connection back home- TG we made it), we can't wait for trip #6 already planned and paid for in April 09... I wonder if the smoke was the boat with Cuban's that caught fire enar Cancun? Glad you enjoyed your trip!!!
Really enjoyed you TR and loved you pictures. You guys look like such a wonderful couple. Hope we get to meet up with you sometime. Glad you had a good time.
Wonderful TR! You got some really great pics of the sunsets there and the other pics were terrific, too!!! Glad you had such a great time...we can't wait for August 30! Btw, Happy belated Anniversary!!! Cheers, Janice
Hola Ken and Joyce, Krsitin and I just returned back to California. It was a pleasure meeting you two. Hope you had fun playing 'Flip Cup." Ryan and Kristin (nokidsyet)
Re: Hola Ryan- my apologies for calling you Bryan in my TR- the flip cup game must have made my memory foggy! That or maybe it was the 6+ anejos y cokas afterwards... anyway- the game was definitely fun. Hope to run into you again... Ken and Joyce
Kathy and Gary (and to the others who replied as well)- thanks for the kudos. TTR is a great place to spend any special occassion. Joyce and I have definitely made TTR our 2nd best vacation spot (OC MD is still #1 in our hearts but not by much!). Hope to run into you guys also- I'm hoping the more we go back, we do get a chance to run into "repeat offenders" like y'all (sorry- that's the best NY-MD "accent" I can muster up).. Ken and Joyce
