I think you would do well in entertainment like Tori said. Entertainment pays decent, $8000 $12,000 a month on average. But with that, you get to live on the resort, have all of your meals on the resort for free and you dont have any bills at all,phone, internet, cable.... So, that is all disposable income!! Definitely more then I could spend with my job back in Canada! But, again, with the new laws, you will need to get your work permit back in the USA and that will take at least a couple months....

Sadly, true. The delay will not be at the embassy or consulate abroad, but here, in Mexico, getting INM to act on the decision to permit hiring a foreigner. Once they do the visa can be issued in a day or two.

At least one other poster had a bad experience at exactly this stage, in which INM, Cancun, took ages to issue their approval. Your experience could be better (certainly hope so).

When working as a tour-sale rep, most monthly salaries were around +26000 pesos and the best sellers went above 40000.

Right now I work with "events"(they call it that here, but I dont like the term) as a freelancer.

Example: Grupo Aerotech sent some 1000 of their staff to Cancun. to do some r&r for 10 days. The company that got contracted to guide the group around, offering activities and such, paid the staff 18000 pesos for 10 days.

Long hours? Yes, on average 10-14 hours during those 10 days.

The work Ive done so far has paid me 897 pesos(thats the lowest Ive got) per day, up to 1300(the highest, so far).

After 8 hours, every extra hour costs them 100 pesos, plus "meals" which are 80 pesos.

Obviously its not a "Monday - Friday, 9-5"-type of job, but once you are connected with the companies that handle groups, you can make a but load of $.

The best part? As a freelancer, you decide if you want to work "1 day" a month or every day that month.

This is NOT something Id do "for the rest of my life", but right now, its the job where I DONT have to sell(hate sales) and that pays very well, even though days can be long.

My longest day was at the airport, receiving several families. It went from 630am to 1145pm at night. Good cash though, but really tired the day after.
