Sad but true :cry: I've known for a little while that Myplace, the sponsors of our Cancun Info forum, were closing but I understand it's been made public now. While My Place will be open for drinks only until the 20th the kitchen is closed and the owners Joe and Jannet are going back to the States. They're both genuinely nice people. I wish them all the best for the future and I'm sorry for them it didnt work out. Just wanted to let people know in case they were making plans to visit.
What a shame. I've never been there but have heard nothing but nice things about both Joe and Jannet. Whatever their reasons for closing I hope things work out for them.
My Place is a great place and one that will surely be missed, as will Janet, Joe and the entire staff, to whom I wish the very best. 212eric
I'm so sorry to hear this, I had not had the chance to go to My Place yet, this isn't fair! Joe and Janet, we have never met, but all the love you're getting on tripadvisor shows you are special people. Good Luck to you in whatever your future holds
I spoke with Joe and it is my understanding that Janet will be staying here and Joe will be going back and forth as His Parents are ill. So not goodbye to them, just My Place.
Hi all - Joe doesn't read this forum - he has tried and tried and for some reason cannot follow it. But whenever there is a My Place-related post I copy and paste it and send him an email. I know I can easily speak for him when I say that he (and all of us from My Place) appreciate your support and your well-wishes. I will make sure he sees them of course, and those of you who have come by with items for the Give A Toy campaign, with empty beer bottles, or just with your friendly smiles, do know that it is appreciated. Joe never forgets a guest and I know Joe and Janet will remember you all fondly. Thanks again and we'll be sure to keep you posted on their next endeavor. Joyce
cunspin is on the mark with her post. I saw Joe this afternoon. He has been going back and forth to the US for months due to the serious illness of his father. In fact his father has lasted four months longer than they were told. Joe and Janet will be resurfacing again soon in Cancun. Joe leaves Saturday but returns for a few days on the 20th to wrap up things at the restaurant. He will then go back to NY to be with his dad during his final few weeks. After wrapping up family matters they will be back. It is not cut and dried as "things did not work out for them." Some things are more important than burgers and booze and unfortunately this is one of them. Something had to give and My Place was it. I am sure all of us would prefer our dad to a restaurant.
We have a nice sized group that was too meet there on the 20th. Just in time to give My Place a propper goodbye. I hope Joe is there that night as we were looking forward to meeting him. Plus my wife is all set for a couple of duets with him LOL.
Joe told me yesterday that he is expecting what I assume is your party and that he has every intention of being there, of course depending on his dad's condition. I regret that I am leaving Sunday and cannot return until the 22nd.
