when we went we got cart for only a hr as thats all we wanted about 20$ no licence no problemo we gave him our room key lol...grab sum beers and did a quick tour next time we will do a half to whole day,
It depends on the time of year but I think it is around $40? for the day? We get the first ferry which I think is 9am ish? Check out the Ultramar website. The last one comes back 5pm. We always eat at Jax Bar and Grill it is left off the ferry on the corner. Owned by an American couple. Awesome food, great quality and cleanliness and good $$. Pick up a beer at any corner store for your drive around the ISland. Don't be scared, explore! It's safe, fun and you can't get lost. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
We went two weeks ago with the kids. We paid 500 Pesos for a golf cart which we picked up at 1pm and could keep until 7pm, although we dropped it off early. It takes an hour to get round the island without stops. Allow 2hrs if you want to stop for the sights and allow longer than that if you want to spend time at a bar or 3.
We just went over on the ferry this week short walk down the street from the resort cost is $19. US round trip each we rented golf carts for the day there as well for $41.00. There was 8 of us so we just rented 2 carts and split the cost
We loved Isla! In 2012, we took the ferry over, rented the golf cart (about $40) and followed a map that has a planned golf cart tour. (Pm me and I will give you the link to get the map) We ate, we drank, we shopped. . . We had such a good time that we intend to stay there for a few days after our TTR stay in May 2014 to recover, lol. There are some great hotels on North Beach for about $75 a night. My favorite stop was the Isla Mujeres Women's Bead Collaborative where local women create jewelery for sale and the proceeds go to benefit the local community. I am hoping it is still there!
Isla is the best especially North Beach..We come to TTR Feb 17th-25th but we rented a cheap hotel room on Isla (Cabana Maria del Mar) for wed night Feb 20th for 1 night. We've always talked about wanting to stay on Isla and take it easy, try a bunch of restaurants and just relax one night so we decided this trip we would do it. We arent checking out of TTR, we just wont be there that night.
We did this in October. It was a brutally hot day and we all said we'd only ever do it on an overcast day. We were sweating our asses off. I didn't think it was that great but that's just me. Tip-whatever you do, do not pay for the golf cart rental on the mainland. Their rental guys aren't close to where you get off the ferry.
We're gonna do a couple hours exploring the island, and these tips are gold. Thanks much, keep it coming. We're excited to visit the Women's Bead Collaborative. Is it still operating? Easy to find?
