Can anyone give more info on renting a moped, or a bike? Like how much it costs? I've also read that they have a public bus. Is that a good way to get around the island? Thanks!
Can't remember the exact numbers on the scooters, but I paid 100 pesos for one hour's use, as I recall. Longer sessions are cheaper, per hour. You can scoot around at sane speeds, and see the island in an hour, if that's your aim. Taxis would be cheaper transportation, if you're going to be out a while, and you're planning to travel point to point, like to Garrafon Park. The buses would mainly be a novelty for tourists, as they don't run frequently enough to offer a serious alternative to taxis which, if you get the official rate, are not overly expensive- costing more than in Cancun, but less than in the hotel zone: 30-50 pesos is the range I recall, with fares set according to distance.
I can't remember the exact cost but it was so worth it. We each rented one, for the day, we only used it for a couple hours and that was our decision. I would recommend the scooter because you can stop and go, check things out where and when you want and for us they were more fun than a golf cart...however saying that when I think about the idea of riding around in a golf cart.. my husband doing the driving I would have been able to look around more, there is so much to see and cannot wait to go back. I know that we didn't see everything, the island is small but has so much to offer and see.
Isla Mujeres is our favorite place. We live in Cancun and spend the night out there nearly once a month, on average.
Don't forget the hotel vistalmars handline barracuda bash in later Jan.This years cuda was 44 pounds on a handline
1 hr about all you can do is shop or have a drink. We took the ferry over one cold cloudy day and rented a golf cart for $40.00 US for 2or3 hrs I think. We stopped and had lunch and saw most of the island before we had to have the cart back. It wasn't a good day to be at the pool but it was a nice day to be on the island.
