Will he be receiving $5 million or is that the amount that he is suing for? I know that a lot of litigants will ask for a certain amount with the thought of settling out of court on their minds (which is usually less than the original amount after the insurance carriers negotiate).

I think that I could do a year for $5 million. But can you really put a price on a person's freedom that was falsely taken away? Who knows what has happened in that year? This guy may have lost loved ones during this time. And that is time that no amount of money can bring back.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... there are some things worth way more than money.

i think $5M after lawyers fees is more reasonable. looks like he's getting $3.33M for 12 months of hell.

would have been nice for the lawyers to drop their fee to 15 or 20% for the poor kid. but, then again, lawyers are lawyers! (except for the ones that frequent CancunCare; they are the only good lawyers!)

I don't think 1/3 is too stiff. Without a good lawyer, he would have served the 15 or 25 to life and no cash. If the kid gets 2/3's of 5 mill, I think it's really good. Some lawyers will get you 1/20 of that (expert witnesses and other expenses). I do know here in NV lawyers take 30-60%.

I'll hire you guys if I ever get caught.

we actually ask for 7 million but the city said they can only offer 5 million and the client and his family both agree to that amount of money, so the 5million is certain. but my law firm will be taken 1/3 of the check and of course the boy still gets his 2/3. majority of ny law firm will take 1/3 of the money. my firm is a great criminal defense law firm, but i dont think you will ever committe a crime, people in the cc forum are nice people.

and one more thing i want to said, while i was doing some paper work today, i have to photo copy several of the victim's bloody tshirt pics, to think the real murder is still out there somewhere, while the government still cannot find who is the real killer only suspecting that another person is the killer again.. it just make me drinking vodka in the office..
