I think the likely hood of the resort shutting down is low (at this point), because of the relative humility in the air. Let me explain why. In my office, I have a humidity meter, I specifically watch for when the levels go below 35 or go above 60. When either of those two thresholds are broken, its a guarantee people start to call out sick. I can bet on it. The bacteria and viruses that cause illness thrive and grow in air that’s above 60 percent relative humidity. If the humidity goes below 35, the dust travels further in the area. That means a person who is asymptomatic and just breathing, their bacteria and virus particles are traveling much further and staying in the air longer. Right now the average humidity in Cancun is 84 percent according to cancuncare.com (ref: Cancun Weather In April | Average Weather Stats | Cancuncare) Indoor AC lowers the humidity levels to the ideal range. When it comes to heat, outdoors surfaces directly in the sun become so hot, it causes the virus to be inactive. There could be a bunch of things wrong with my speculation, so anyone who wants to set the record straight on that.. please do I'm more worried about the resort being open and fine and being in some way restricted to travel there.
If many people cancel, the resort doesn’t want or need to pay wages. Also how much fun would the sexy pool be with three people??? I dunno. This whole thing is depressing. Uuuugh. I just wanna go to TTR.
Following this thread closely. Everyone going march/April keep us posted on your travel plans! I have one week left
We cancelled our trip today. No point in taking unnecessary risks when the resort will be there waiting for us to party once things have settled considerably. Made us super sad to do it, but it's so much better to err on the side of caution. Worst part is, I work in hotel operations for a major cruise line and we're getting slammed to death with this thing. Better to focus on the business at this time.
We are trying to move our dates to October. Just can’t risk getting stuck away from our kids or being away from our businesses during this time of major daily changes. So bummed. We really needed a break and some sunshine ...
With the official WHO declaration of COVID-19 as a global pandemic, recommend anyone still choosing to travel checks thoroughly with their out-of-country travel insurance coverage provider(s) that they would still be covered for illness treatment, hospitalization, quarantining, etc given the declaration (i.e. limitations, what's covered, what's not covered). Many folks rely on employer or travel credit card benefits or purchased travel medical insurance for peace of mind, but there may be some, "you're not covered if...", fine print, weasel language clauses pertaining to declared pandemics, insurrection, flying when there are government recommended or imposed restrictions, etc. Not fear mongering, just words to the wise.
To each there own, but as of right now there are no travel restrictions to Mexico from the US nor are there restrictions to the US from Mexico. Also, there are only 7 confirmed cases of Coronavirus in all of Mexico. I get being vigilant, but I’d be more worried about issues with Mexico letting US citizens in because we have exponentially more cases. The Mexican Government stated yesterday that they have no intention now or in the foreseeable future to implement travel restrictions, etc. Unless something drastically changes, we will be at TTR March 24-29 in the sexy pool and ready to party!!!
We are cautiously watching everything unfold. If there are no travel restrictions or rumors looming on the horizon we will be there March 25-31st. Our biggest fear is restrictions are imposed while we are there and we have to leave early.
