We have been in what some would consider the rough part of Cancun and with the exception of taxi driver getting lost on way back to hotel we have never had a problem. I live in SC and there are places here I won't walk alone but never been worried down there. If you want to venture out of the hotel zone but feel uncomfortable- find a couple of people to go with you since there is strength in numbers.

Only about 40% of tourists make it out alive. I like living on the edge, so I'm heading back there in two weeks.

that is what makes TTR so special, since it is so easy to meet people, you can always find people who wants to venture out in town, and you have the protection of having security by numbers. Any other resort it is hard to socialize at times and get others to want to join you exploring Cancun.

Compaired to many parts of the USA its very safe. Some parts of LA, NY, Chicago, New Orleans, are way more unsafe than Cancun.

we've been travelling to Cancun for YEARS! we are not stupid or cocky and we trust our instincts. we love cancun because we can jump on the bus and go into town, go shopping, restautants, bars etc. and feel TOTALLY safe! not saying that in some parts of mexico some seriously wrong stuff doesn't happen, but we are getting really sick of the bad rap that the media is giving mexico. you will quickly find out that mexicans are wonderful people and you will want to go back again and again and again!:mexicoflag::flagcanada:

I take it the same way I do around here. I live 10 minutes from Hartford, CT. And there is a murder here almost once a week. You are probably safer in Cancun

    Is Cancun safe?

I wouldn't have been living there with two young kids for the last 8 years if it wasn't.
