could someone tell me what they are ... i guess i should know this for work, being and 'IT geek' an all
Steve, When implementing, just keep in mind that Google's working on a new push to take Technorati's WTF market share this year.
Without going into each one, they're all to do with either being automatically notified of when new content is added and accessing said content from a central place, or are a means of sharing, recommending and commenting upon visited websites with other users. Basically, a couple of more recent ways of getting traffic to your websites. But if it's only webmasters that know and use them maybe not much point in me progressing for this kind of site. BTW Wikipedia will have far better definitions than I could ever give.
I had to look it up myself... I just know it as WTF. It means Where's The Fire - short blurbs that explain the buzz around people, things, or events. Without too much detail, Technorati searches through blogs. Most blogs they use to search through were industry blogs. In an attempt to become more main stream, they are marketing social news and events (like celebrity gossip, myspace blogs...). Technorati's two main focuses are divided into two domains - Industry and Social. To help promote the Social domain and become a full news source (again, main stream celebrity gossip, myspace blogs...), they've implemented WTF, which from what I understood is a database of blurbs. Basically a general blog so that more people can participate without learning how to blog, just blurb which is like typing an email. It's that same market that Google will be trying to capture this year, because obviously they didn't make nearly enough money in the first quarter of this year.
Even though it seems that most of the people here are not too familiar with the technology, I bet that a lot of people would get into it once they realized how easy it is to use and what it can do for them. If you implemented some of those features into the forum, people could use them if they choose or they could go about their business as they usually do.
