Yes, It is similiar to that one but not the same although they appear to work the same way. The reviews on this one mentioned it being like plastic and ours is metal. This one has a combination but ours has a key. I will dig it out and look to see later if there is a brand name on it so I can find it for you all.

    Thanks for the detailed review.

One thing I would comment on:

Re the bellboys, at most if not all hotels they are paid commission by the taxi drivers - hence the taxi showing up when you hadn't asked for one and wanting to take you to a ferry terminal when there is one literally 5 minutes walk towards the party Zone just after the huge Riu Cancun hotel. My guess is they would have taken you to the ferry terminal at Embarcadero and put you on the old ferry (which also pays commissions) instead of the fast and modern Ultramar ferry.

Great tip on bringing your own lock for the safe! They are a little expensive but of course reusable anywhere, and could soon pay for itself.

Our "lock" was very strange. The locking mechanism actually slid into an opening in the front of the safe.

Sorry, just need clarification...so the safe isn't a combination # type safe, but one that needs a lock? Thanks!

The lock was about 1" X 1" X1" and actually slid into a hole in the front of the safe. you turned the key to set the lock. to unlock it, you truned the key and the mechanism pulled out.

The lock was very heavy !!! If you "whopped" someone on the head with that thing, it would really hurt.

Thanks for writing such a detailed trip report! It was informative and honest, and we learned new things as well.

We will make the most of our trip next week and have better expectations because of your report.

    Thanks again.
