oh cde no questioning at all the results of volcanic ash .................questioning the ability of media to actually report the story - as poor information is a pattern with the media the reality of the situation is that in seveal areas of europe the disruption has in fact eased as the plume has slowly drifted east. Irish authorities reopened Dublin and Cork airports today, and some planes were being permitted to touch down at Paris's three airports. Airports in the far north of Sweden and Norway also were reopened. so this doom and gloom total shut down is not entirely accurate - typical - of the media same ol shit - just gets very old indeed i mean when you read the whole story (not just the headlines) you see the bigger picture sure there are those who say "this might go on for days and weeks and twenty three years and the people with swine flu need to stay away from those whom have seen volcanic ash" they are a minority most experts take the stance of University of Iceland professor Armann Hoskuldsson "We expect it to last for two days or more or something. It cannot continue at this rate for many days. There is a limited amount of magma that can spew out." rob
ah gotcha... well I need to start pregaming... My first flight tomorrow leaves at 0650 out of Calgary. By 10pm tomorrow I plan on being in Paty O's making my liver cry!
Nope it's spot on. As you don't live over here then you don't get to hear the news of whats actually happening. Belfast & Glasgow are open, all other major airports have stopped flights until 7pm Saturday night. BBC News - Volcanic ash flight restrictions lifted in parts of UK Try reading or listening to news from the country of origim instead of CNN etc. Your reference to distruption for weeks or months is 100% false. Not a single newspaper or broadcaster has said anything of that nature.
So sorry to hear you've been cancelled guys. We know how you feel as it happened to us last May with the swine flu out break two days before we were due to fly. Have they offered you other dates????
Dude......you are soooooo freakin wrong! This could go on for weeks even months. I do hope it works out for you. All of this sizemic (sp) activity.....earthquakes.....volcanic eruptions....are tied together....and this eruption may continue for weeks....... PS: Do hope your party flies!
we may not agree on swimsuits but we certainly agree on these doomsday prophets who call themselves reporters see you in two weeks dude rob
If I remember my tectonics and igneous courses correctly you are both right. Partially. The common volcanoes in Iceland can have sustained long term eruptions, however not usually explosive. After what should be a short time the volcano should go into a phase where it's more akin to oozing than erupting in a violent sense. One of the complicating factors here was a glacier and more than likely groundwater. The water first effected by magma boiled and the pressure from steam would have amplified the eruptive force here. Hopefully soon the volcano reaches some sort of equilibrium where the not as much water is being vaporized and the gases in the volcano itself begin to dissipate. If I were a betting man I would think that air traffic should be back to normal in a week or two. Just remember if you ask a geologist for a specific number and he gives you one... He's obviously lying because we really don't know squat!!! :aktion069: Oh yeah and we are hopeless drunks... :ernaehrung015::ernaehrung005: I will pray to whatever god, sacrifice whatever small animal etc to see sun during this trip that starts tomorrow as well!
ahh Geology degree for me , 17 years ago not using it though unless you count silicon in semiconductors :icon_wink: ... couple of my classmates are in Calgary now. look up the history on that volano over 100 years ago it was spewing ash for 11 months !!!
