As in the States were there are many accents representing different parts of the country - Canada has the same thing with various accents or speech patterns. The "eh" thing (and other versions) I have heard more from Americans joking saying that than from Canadians in Canada. One Mexican driver said that joke repeatedly the whole time he drove us to the resort. I don't mind the joke really but just heard it to many times to react anymore eh.....
What is even funnier is that I have a pic of my kids standing on the tip of Point Pelee in the water from years ago. lmao
