As long as you can get a line then dial up should work fine. During Wilma a tree took our telephone line down, but most of our neighbours never lost their line.

Wet wipes are the BOMB. Buy lots.

Also, paper plates and throw away cutlery.

A giant bag of Animal Crackers to share with friends. LOL. (remember kel kel?)

I think we survived because of those animal crackers.

And the gallon bucket of cochinita the neighbours gave us...oh man we gorged on cochinita!

We always bring in everything from the yard, all the potted plants, all the lawn furniture. And we trim the trees and bugambilias back a lot too. That way there's nothing (of ours) for the wind to throw around out there.

If you have a tinaco on the roof make sure it's firmly strapped down and is full of water when the hurricane hits. Half of our neighbors lost their tinacos in Wilma because the things had no water in them.

If you have a stationary gas tank make sure it's strapped down. And then shut it off before the hurricane hits, you don't want a leak to form while it's open.

If you have those nasty little portable gas tanks instead then you should be even more careful to make sure they are strapped down and can't move in the wind.

Also, crack open the windows on the leeward side of your building so that if something comes through a window, the sudden increase in air pressure doesn't blow out all the windows on the other side of the house. And/or keep the doors closed to the rooms on the sharp side.

Do all your laundry ahead of time and/or pick it up from the lavanderia, I remember a few people stuck without clothes who forgot.

Grab some mosquito coils or citronella.

Do not throw away the ugly standard tel mex phone. they work without lights. By tons of bottled water and put it in the freezer. It will keep the freezer at temperature for days. Do have tuna, crackers, diapers, milk, bread, juice, baby wipes (great idea). Make sure the tank on top of the house is full.

clean the yard of objects that could break windows
trim limbs of any thing not 100% stable
    definitely get cash
    fill up
talk with neighbors and know each others situations
    buy a car cell charger
if you can leave do (wilma experience)
find where shelters are in your area
    flashlights (lots)
    batteries (lots)
    candles
    lighter
    matches

    be careful and safe....
