Hi all well we fly in on Saturday 29 October (up to now anyway) travel agents taking it day by day, so fingers crossed. Moira & Jim
Steve, Our 1st time to Cancun. Scheduled to fly in tomorrow at 4 pm and leave the 31st. We can reschedule for a few days later, departing no later than the 31st. Would there be any benefit in rescheduling for a few days later or would we just be stuck in unpleasant conditions like no power and water? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Riding it out? Anyone that thinks that riding one out would be fun, let me tell you first hand that it is no picnic!!! I was on Cozumel just before Emily hit in 2005 and literally got on the last ferry out to the mainland before the Catagory 5 hit and basically wiped out Cozumel and did alot of damage to the Cancun area. Being in a hotel with 100mph plus winds hitting the patio doors, flooding the room and having the front desk tell everyone to get into the bathtubs in the middle of the night in not my idea of a vacation!! We were lucky to get out of Cozumel and ride it out at one of the mainland resorts but it is not something that you would want to do twice!!! Airlines and hotels were telling us that everything was fine right up to the evacuation order came down which in my opinion was late. If this hits Cancun head on, you don't want to be there. Don't know how TTR handles this, but on Cozumel, the staff would not come in and we would have been on our own if we had decided to stay there and ride it out.
Trip Insurance I found this site and if it can help out those who want to cancell and do not already have cancellation insurance, this site will give u a quote to add onto ur trip to do so. Hope this helps and praying all goes well and nobody gets hurt by Rina. xxoo
Yikes, just checking out my hurricane tracker app on the iPad.......Thursday in Cancun is not going to be much fun (fortunately we won't be there). Hope everyone stays safe and makes it out ok.......looks like its going to be hitting full force right over Cancun before petering out....not cool. If I was a traveller in Cancun right now.....I'd be thinking about getting the &@#% out of there ASAP
Praying all goes safely in Cancun bewteen now and friday. Thursday seems to be looking the worst. On a positive note... Im sure Cancun will be partying like CRAZY once Rina is all over with. Cancun will always survive whatever Mother Nature throws at em Thinking positive for all the locals, tourists and workers in Cancun and surrounding areas for a safe week. XOXOX
All the forecasts I'm seeing put the worst of it smack dab on top of Cancun on Thursday (right when it peaks naturally).....they're "only" calling for a category 3 with 115mph winds. From what I can see, you guys are gonna get hit with the full brunt of it.....obviously that can change hourly. Stay safe.....
The latest GFS track doesn't look good. It is just one of the models, but this one shows a direct hit on Cancun at Cat 3 levels early Thursday. Be safe everyone!
Thanks Steve that makes me feel better knowing it's not a hotel decision Ill pass it on to others here because the resort is actting like it's no big deal and telling us very little info.
