Hurricane Ike is likely to land just north of Corpus Christi, driving my extended family to safer places...like San Antonio. Except the local weatherman there (a good one!) for the first time in his life has purchased an electric generator and predicts heavy rains and winds gusting at 100 mph! So, let's drive to the Dallas area, eh? Heavy rains predicted here, too with wind gusts to 50 mph. Is no place safe in TX? ...as it happens, Brownsville (my "Valley" cousins are there) is not in the path of the hurricane and are offering places to stay for my family in Corpus. Geez....just when T came back last month from Port Aransas with dreams of moving to the Texas coast someday... three hurricanes/tropical storms have hit TX this season thus far!
