Thanks for all the great tips. I told my wife that the one downside of the resort was supposedly the beach "wasn't that good". I then showed her the pictures posted here and she went "That's bad?!". With Nag's Head in NC its not unusual to have some sea weed under feet, and by the looks of it there's a far nice white sand then the yellow hard pack you find around the outer banks. Thankfully we've not ventured any further into the Carribean than Punta Cana thus far and so our idea of what is a "good beach" is somewhat limited. She'll miss the lack of waves, but perhaps going to a public beach a day or two will help that (And it seems that most of the Carribean isn't great for big waves?). So after seeing some of your updates and the pictures she's sold. We booked our trip and will be heaving down end of April. Thanks to all of you for the wonderful input and help!
Just remember that whatever the hell you do, don't assume that the water on the west side of the hotel strip is a beach and go swimming in it. It's a lagoon and it's filled with alligators (crocodiles?).
