Sounds like someone is renting out their timeshare. That means no room upgrade even if you are a select guest. I don't know how timeshare works, do you get house cleaning?
Apparently you get a lot. I checked with a TA I know to find out what comes with the Studio timeshares at the Omni (you know why), and here's what I got back Oh - and yes, we always stay in rented condos in Cancun and (at least at the one's we've stayed at) you get cleaning same as if you were a hotel guest. (Maybe better 'cause at some places they wash the dishes and such too)
