You can talk until you're blue in the face Karan, this is a BBG board (recognized as such or not) and nothing you can say will make a difference. "BBG is and will always be best for everything" - is the major predisposition I've seen here, which in the main is what has limited this board's growth. Too bad in a way as there's a lot of other good that goes on here that which goes unrecognized as a result.

vacbound07 - The folks here from BBG are (if you couldn't tell) exceedingly clique-ish. That means that if you are looking for a place where there's an significantly greater level of community than the norm [and if you FIT IN], then BBG just may be for you. (The norm in Cancun is more like the norm in the States, where you may or may not know your neighbor - depending on whether there's a good reason to do so.)

As far as whether that's going to get you laid, or even expand the number of opportunities for long-term relations with members of the opposite (or even the same) sex - I doubt that there's any benefit there. (As a matter of fact, when you become part of a clique, your approachability to others which are not part of that clique declines - and as you've heard, BBG is not the "swinging singles" of Cancun.)

Keep in mind, Cancun in general has been purposefully directed towards a more family-oriented culture (and they've made it as far as driving the tourist population far more towards being couples than singles). As an alternative, if you must be in Cancun, I would look into the Golden Crown Paradise Hotel & Spa which has activities particularly designed for singles and therefore attracts more of that crowd.

I really don't think I fit into that category.

In fact, I think I do a pretty good job of pointing it out when I think BBg isn't the place someone is looking for.

BBG certainly isn't "best for everything" in my mind. My loyalty to going there is purely personal and I think I have been able to stay fairly open nminded about the place...the good and the bad things.

Even though it surprises me when you don't tow the party line (a good surprise BTW), it turns out that I agree with you regarding what you said... and that's what I was thinking when I said that you can say that BBG isn't the end all be all for everyone 'until you're blue in the face' and it won't help matters here.

And clearly, I didn't express myself very well,
so I'm thankful for a second opportunity.
(after all, it's not often we agree).

So - to make it emmminently clear - YES, I agree with everything you've said in this post (even the implication that I might be hard to understand!) -and NO, if you're 40+ years old and looking for chicks, BBG is less than the ideal setting in Cancun.

And - thank you for taking the time (and practising the civility) to respond.

Oh, I 'm so sorry...now it's me not making myself clear.

I absolutley knew you agreed with my position on this issue and didn't think that you were accusing me of "drinking the BBG kool-aid" so to speak.

Guess I just didn't make that to clear in my post.

Who would have thunk it...me and you on the same side???? Guess there is hope for this world yet huh???

Naaa... the stats on that say it's still a longshot.
But that's OK, it makes for a more interesting world this way.

BTW, noticed in the 'December' thread that you might be around at Xmas. Cancun is a pretty big place,
but who knows who one might run into at that time.

I'm always there for my birthday on the 17th.

I can guarentee you we won't run into each other in the hotel zone but downtown is a totally different matter.

Single guys looking to party and meet chicks? I would have to say that the Riu Cancun would top the list. Very nice property, walking distance to the nightclubs, all inclusive, from all reports a nice ratio of singles, 24 hour bar and quality rooms and facilities. You might also check out the Riu Caribe or the Krystal.

I'm not quite sure why you keep trotting out this "this is a BBG board" statement and that there's "a party line that has to be towed". Quite honestly I'm starting to find it annoying.

This subforum (Cancun Info) is not "a BBG board" neither is the forum as a whole. The BBG board accounts for just over 21% of threads, the Cancun Info forum 26%, the Spring Break forum 24%, Free for All 24%. How can that be anything but well balanced? Apart from a small perentage of users who roam all over, most people stick to whichever forum specialises in their area of interest. So when you come along and start telling people that they wont get a straight answer then I think that's neither a fair comment to make or one that will encourage new people to post here. Why are we not a Spring break board or a Cancun board when both of those subforums have more threads than for BBG?

And, I wonder, how many times have you stayed at BBG to qualify your opinion that it's not a suitable place for the original posters choice list? Your recommendation of GCP is way off the mark too imho.

I am sure you have very little idea about how to start, develop, maintain and grow a board such as this. But I can tell you that comments such as yours above do not exactly help matters.

You wouldn't be concerned if it weren't true, Steve.
And hey - don't be annoyed.
You can always pull the plug on my ability to post here.
(Maybe that's the secret to "start, develop, maintain, and grow" a board like this.)
    And then, maybe it's not.
Your board, your problem and your choice on how to deal with it.

In case Steve makes the choice I think him likely to favor - Bye everyone. :bigwave:

No I am not concerned, trust me on that. What I am concerned about is comments like yours that are a) untrue and b) give an unfair impression to new arrivals.

You want to start a new Cancun board then go ahead. Others have tried (and failed) You wont be the first nor the last to do both.

I did notice that you didn't answer a single one of my questions so here's another one for you to avoid. Of the almost 1,000 reviews each on BBG and GCP at Trip Advisor which one has the highest rating as being suitable for singles?
