any hookah bars in cancun?

 

I had to post this just for incase someone gets the wrong idea. Hookas at a hooka bar is a place that you can go to smoke flavored tobacos

 

There's one on Av Nader, which runs parallel to Av Tulum downtown. If you get off the bus around Bancomer, and cut throught to Nader, it's right in that area.

 

also,
go into ANY shop that sells waterpipes, pipes, rolling paper etc. and they'll probably try and sell you the "tobbacco" that you use in them. There is a little shop in the Coral Negro flea market that sells that kind of stuff...

the bar on nader is aptly called Hookah so you can't miss it. there is another place in playa del carmen that has hookahs. it's called Ohm and it's across the street from the blue parrot.

Just a note. Be careful. They may try to sell you the wacky tobbacky or sell you a pipe and offer to fill it for you. Sounds good until the rats start to nibble on you at night in the dirt floor jail cell.

I don't smoke but I have some friends who do, so I picked up some pipes for them. The same pipes that go for 100 bucks in the states are about 30 mx. You better believe I was pressured into buying the "tobacco" that goes in 'em. After refusing a cpl hundred times I was allowed to leave with my purchases. When I went in Feb with my 20 yo son, we were offered everything on the street from girls, cocaine, weed, ecstacy, you name it.... One tour guy near the Plaza Caracol even handed us a small bag of weed (bout a joints worth) and when I attempted to give it back he refused insisting we could keep it. We walked away and ended up tossing it in the nearest trash can.

 

I met a guy there on my first trip that did buy weed from a guy in the street. A little later he was escorted out of Daddy Rock by the police. The guy who sold him the weed turned him in. They took him to some bad neighborhood downtown and took all of his money and his shoes. It was that or go to jail. He had to walk back to Cancun palace from downtown. He refused to leave the hotel the rest of his stay. He is lucky they didn't take him to jail. Ironically they didn't take the drugs. Drugs and Mexico are a really bad thing.

 

Hmmm, makes me wonder if they really were cops, seems like a pretty good scam if they weren't....
