I really don't get home sick, I don't even call Canada "home" anymore, it's "back there". THIS is home. I might get more home sick if I ever actually went back to see what I am missing, but the last time I was in Canada was six years ago.

The only products I really miss are Triscuits and good chocolate mints (Peppermint patties, etc).. Luckily friends and family seem to enjoy bringing me my treats. :)

Other than that, I stay in touch via internet and it seems to take the distance away from the people that I do miss. A great friend said she felt like an idiot going into work one day and being asked what she did the night before. She wanted to say "I hung out with my best friend drinking beer and having conversation", but since we did it online she didn't feel quite right about it. :D

When I lived in Russia, and Kazakhstan, I always looked forward to getting on a plane bound for the U.S., and it was a relief to get on the plane, even with that long journey ahead of me.

Living in Mexico, I don't actually feel any great Desire to leave.

My wife says it's just like the U.S., here, only more convenient! We're walking distance from much of the shopping we do, don't need a car, and can see any medical specialist the same day. Can't get that level of convenience in the U.S.!

As for enjoying things from back home, I suppose a visit to Costco fits the bill for us! We sit outdoors in the tropical air, sharing a berry sundae at Costco, and think we've got the world by the tail.

I get homesick for my family and old friends. I miss the doula/midwife community I was so involved in.I miss Baked Beans and good curry. I miss english country pubs and english humour.Large parks with green open spaces and trees that change colour in the autumn.
Most of all I miss my daughter who chose to stay in UK when we moved 5 years ago and now I have to deal with my other one leaving to attend university.

Wherever I have lived in the world I have missed things about the UK but I still dont want to return - not just yet.

I have been here for 24 years. Cancun is my home.
